P0031 code stays on

Hello all I've got a 06 camry V6 with a bank 1/sensor 1 sensor problem. I had already replaced the sensor with a new denso oxygen sensor and erased the code with my scantool. After driving around, the CEL came back on and everytime I hook up my scantool it gives me the same P0031 code. Can somebody tell me how to erase the code completely and get rid of the CEL? Thanks!

Well, you've determined the sensor isn't the real problem.

That leaves the wiring between the sensor to the ECU or the current monitoring circuit in the ECU as the next suspects. Time to get out the VOM (Volt-Ohm meter) and follow the TSM (Technical Service Manual) diagnostic tree...

Look at http://www.obd-codes.com/p0031 for a summary for items to check. The TSM is the best source for discerning which wire to do the test on.

More than likely you replaced the B1S1 with an O2 sensor when the vehicle calls for an A/F (Air/Fuel) sensor. They look exactly alike but measure different things. If you have the old sensor laying around look carefully on the sleeve and check the part number. If the part begins with 89467 then its an A/F sensor, 89465 means its an O2 sensor.
