5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I've been lurking the forums for awhile now and have found alot of answers to my questions, but the one thing i can't seem to find any info about is spraying on a 2007 v6 camry. I've searched but this forum doesnt seem to have much info on FI for our cars like the G35 and 350z forums had. I've seen a few turbo camry out there but none on the juice. I mean i found some info on previous generations but just nothing for the 2gr-fe engine.
My last car was an 03 infiniti G35 coupe and i have since sold it and bought a camry. It was running a 125 shot w/o any problems but it was also tuned for it.
So to get to my question has anyone or does anyone know of anyone that has used nitrous on a v6 camry on 2gr-fe engine in general. I plan on running a wet 75 shot and i believe it will be safe as i have seen scions w/ the 4cyl 2.4l running 50-75 shots. Can anyone give me any insight or info as far as what they know this engine can handle??
What are you gonna replace it with after it blows up?
Heres a lexus with a 2GR that was ran like a baby and well mainained: http://www.clublexus.com/forums/es35...ine-noise.html
mine sounds the same way. I would not advise doing it.

Seatbelt! you're piloting a vehicle were dual vvt-i hitts harder then VTEC and the torquesteer can possibly snap your wrists
if our engines knock, tick, and piston slap like that when babied. Can you imagine what could happen from running nitrous? Our 2GR just isn't over engineered like an older 3VZ motor. Any late model factory engine without heavily modified internals will not fair well with nitrous.

no warranty...car has 90,000 miles on it...for $200 bucks i bought a whole setup w/ full bottle so not like it costed me that much...
do ya'll just dislike nitrous b/c ya'll never used it or what? i came here for some answers, but if no one has any info (besides thats a waste or stupid idea) then please just read this and move along, i promise you not responding to my thread won't hurt my feelings. It's not like i'm exactly new to nitrous or some lil wanna be fast and the furious ricer, i just like it for the extra hit it gives you.
Also like i said the 4cy tc's are running 5-0-75 shots w/o a problem so thats the same motor in a 4cyl camry. So ya'll are tryin to tell me i could spray the 4cyl but not the 6cyl. That just doesn't make any sense especially considering i'm going to be starting w/ a 50 shot and probably eventually moving up to a 75 shot.
I dont see a problem even if your car has piston slap. I have a piston slap in my Silverado and have seen many people supercharge those without issues. I have also seen TransAms ect.. with the famous LS1 slappers that also have been sprayed, and never any issues. From looking at the 2GR engine it appears to be very sturdy indeed. I think the problem that is out there in most cases are people trying to get more power, but yet very little knowledge to go on to do it right. For example "gota 85 transam with hooker headers, crane cam and a Holley Double pumper.." you heard this back in the day by some shade tree mechanic. Then they wonder why "it dont run very good" If somebody has engine biulding experience and was taught by a real school then I dont see a problem. I have learned so far the 2GR has "piston slap" or "VVTI noise" but i guess its normal. I would not worry about boosting it along as I knew what type of internals it had by first looking at one torn down. Then you can see whatcha got to work with. So if you boost it, please keep us up on it. I for one would like to know how it is going for you and what you opinon would be after your done.

Yes... this is my point. The 2GR is not a bad engine but it isn't put together very well.
It sounds shit all the time, ticks, leaks, waterpump breaks etc etc.

I have nothing against nitrous, but I am more intimately knowledgeable about my 2GR! I don't pretend it's built like a Lexus/Yamaha V10 in the LF-A!
Go for the nos. Whatever u do don't go crazy. The motor only can handle around 400hp without any internal work. Although not many people have pushed it. The motor is not as fragile as many believe it to be. Only real issues are the vvti lines, water pumps, and some ticking/slapping which is pretty much how it's built. Do a 75 shot and It'll be fine. Also should look into headers, custom exhaust, and intake. ur in Louisiana right? Lucky. Some interesting stuff there.....
i already have the fujita f5 cai. i already have an axle back exhaust (didnt go full exhaust b/c didnt feel the need to increase piping size on the camry). if you go to youtube type in camry prototype v2 exhaust and thats the one i went w/ (its pretty much just a muffler delete w/ straight pipe and tips). it sounds very deep and throaty not ricey at all and make it not even sound like a camry anymore (think more like a stock is-f sound muffled down)
i also just lowered the car yesterday on h&r springs, so will be looking to pick up either a trd 19mm rear sway or ultra racing 23mm rear sway soon to finish off the suspension for a lil while
like i said im pretty sure the engine is strong enough to handle the nitrous especially just a 75 shot, i don't think ill be goin any larger than that. and these engines must b able to handle some abuse b/c there is a few turbo camry running around and i've heard like you said that they were fine until they upped the boost to push them over 400hp.
