Help! Daytime Running Lights Camry 08

I have been told that to comply with the Canadian Federal Inspection for my 08 Camry that I imported from the US, the DRL (Daytime Running Lights) need to be ON all the time when the engine is on. The car does have DRL but there is the option of turning it off on the 'lights knob'. Canadian Tire is asking for $275 to straighten this issue.

How can this be done? Any tips are welcome. I remember that on my 08 Sienna that did not have DRL in the first place, it was just a question of inserting a fuse into an empty slot in the fuse box.

Just leave it alone, and keep the DRL's "on"? I actually turned mine off (by doing some fancy work lol). Never been bugged by law enforcement...

Just leave the light stalk that came with the car and leave the switch on "on" Why is CT involved? Are they making you change it for a reason?

Per the Canadian Law, you have to have the DRLs always on. There should not be any provision to turn it off. At least for the new cars that are still to be registered in Canada.

Yes i get that. But what is the problem if you just keep the like stalk for the DRL's "ON"? And if it has to be changed i guess you're stuck paying the 300 bucks to do so.

But like i said i've never been stopped for having my DRL's off. Toyota helped me figure out how to turn them off for that matter. But i did all the work to do so.

Once I register the car in Ontario, I guess nobody cares.

Here is what I mean:
The first image you can see the DRL off mode on the light knob. In this position, the daytime running lights turn OFF. The Canadian Law does not allow that.
The second image you can see the Auto mode on the light knob. In this position, the DRL is always ON (and also the headlights if it is daytime).
In Canada, the DRL Off switch should be deactivated somehow. How, I do not know except by paying 300 $$.

lol thats the stupidest thing i ever heard, why can't you just leave it on auto? If you leave it on auto the DRL's will always be on, until your headlights turn on. paint the DRL OFF words black? so they can't see it.

I understand what you mean....but what i don't get it why can't the switch be left alone and leave it on all the time, then your DRL's are always on.

Go to a Toyota dealer, they'll get you fixed up. But if it's not keeping you from getting the car registered and on the road i wouldn't stress myself out over it

LED Daytime running lights (LED DRL) are a low-cost method to reduce crashes. It can improve the noticeability and detectability of vehicle in the central and peripheral fields of view.
