5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Just a quick question for those of you that have done this little modification to your Camry's. How and where did you mount the ballast for your HID lights in your Camry? Pictures would be helpful as I am having to do this with mine (2011 SE) and was wondering where to put those at for the driving lights and for the fog lights as well. I didn't want to just rely on the double sided tape and I want them as secure as possible so I don't hear a rattling later down the road. Any help with this would be appreciated. Thanks!!!
I put mine in the trunk next to the spare tire , the cooler temps allow my ballast to be more efficient giving triple the output if you were to put them in your engine bay.

I think the wire resistance for such that long distance will take everything back. Also, the ballast is designed to output certain amount of power, the change may not be "triple", or "double", or "one and a-half"!!!

I e-mailed nasa about this idea, they are paying to ship my whole car out to their secret base to test it out so they can have super ultra bright glare lights on their spaceships for when they send me to pluto to make snowmen

have you been experimenting with crack?

The correct answer to the OP question is to find places near the front of the sidewalls where you can easily tie-wrap them in place so there is no movement, and where they can avoid most moisture. Air flow is helpful but not critical to function. You want to assure that all electrical connections are moisture tight. Shrink wrap is good in some situations as is a good brand of electrical tape that won't get brittle with age. Finally if Radio Shack still sells Coax Seal, that is the best of all for sealing connections.

I used double sided tape that came with my HID kit.
They are mounted on the part of the frame that is visible right behind the headlights. The passenger side one is a tight squeeze.

I think Ava_Cam ballasts look like Hella, but I'm not sure where he bought them and whether they are real.
For the passenger-side, I wonder what tube is near the ballast. I don't want any wire to touch something too hot or too cold. Also, the roads here are getting bad because of a lot of rain/snow in the past month. I wonder if double-sided tape can hold them in place. I don't want them to run into the fan under the hood. :-(
-> I'm so lazy to re-locate my ballasts and re-run the wires! :-(

^ Exactly where i have my currently mounted, its a great spot that is away from electrical wiring. 3M all weather double-sided tape that holds up to 5lbs, works great and i really have to yank on the ballast to try to move it.

Nope its a ddm tunning kit, that silver tube on the passenger side has something to do with cooling, not exactly sure, ill have to look into that, but as far as i can work out, it doesn't heat up or get cold.

You're OK, I've had mine in the same location for 2 years with no problem.
