Hi,
At a stop, I pushed and held the traction control button to turn off/limit TC and vehicle stability. I put the shift selector into S (sport) mode and tapped it down to display "1" on the dash, and hit the gas pedal. The car accellerated pretty well. When it got to the redline, it kept bouncing off of the rev limiter instead of shifting to "2". I took my foot off of the pedal and shifted to "D". I don't really do this very often. I was surprised that the trans didn't shift before the rev limiter. I'm pretty sure that it behaved a little differently the last time I was monkeying around. It's been a while. Any thoughts/experience?
Thanks,
Sport mode means you manually shift or choose what gear you want the car to be in ( push up to shift up and pull back on the shifter to shift down), it doesnt automatically shift for you. Remember that the sport mode is laggy because it does not use the twin clutch design so it will not shift right away. If your a spirited driver sometime, push up to shift around 5800rpm and by the time it does shift into the next gear you wont bounce off the rev limiter. personally i dont use it unless i need to pass a car and ill use sport mode to shift down a gear.

S downshifts to 4th gear on command, and then if you need more power you probably want to be in 3rd to pass.
I drive locally on 5, I drive highway on 6 or D.
I don't like D because the shifter is too tall and I have knocked in neutral more than once. I would drive in D if I can cut the damn thing down.
I think rule62 is asking what is normal? The owners manual is clear as mud. On one hand it states "selecting shift ranges using S mode restricts the upper limit of the possible gear ranges". Two pages later, it states "to prevent the engine from over-revving, upshifting may automatically occur. Can anyone shed some light on what SHOULD happen in S first gear?

I think it upshifts depending on your speed.

yea, sorry i shift into S and down shift once for the be in 3rd. I would use S mode but it lags too much and it annoys me. I also want to cut down the shifter, but i have to find a way to re-thread the rod, or at least find a nice shift knob that screws into the side of the pole.

My 07 will not shift out of sport first unless shifted manually. It will keep bouncing off the limiter. During full throttle acceleration in sport first I have to select second gear at between 5000 and 5500 rpms to prevent the engine from hitting the limiter before the shift occurs. The V6 revs extremely fast in first so you have to be watching the tach and be quick on the shift.

That's what I was asking and referring to. I read that (in my owner's manual), and thought that in the past, my car shifted when I tried the same shennanigans from a stop. I know that I've shifted into "S" and then down to 2 to pass while already moving, and the car shifted into 3 automatically at or near redline. I was taken a little off guard when the shift from 1 to 2 didn't happen the same from a stop. My tires were not breaking traction as far as I could feel/hear.
The beep occurrs when selecting a gear that is too low for the speed the car is already travelling when "S" mode is engaged.
No big deal. Just wondering what your experience has been. Seems like the word "may" above, is the operative.
