Gen6 Custom Sub Enclosure and Amp Shelf?

Hey all, title says it.. Trying to find a DIY guide for a custom panel+enclosure for the trunk of my gen 6. Currently I simply contour-cut a single piece of MDF that spans the width of the trunk, placed in the rear with a center cut square hole to slide the current sub box in. There are two amplifiers mounted on either side of the panel left and right of the sub. Using a 10" sub.

I've been looking off and on since this summer for a real DIY kit/guide to build a setup which will house everything and still allow me use and access to the spare. Currently the straight panel I built as well as the subwoofer box (generic) sit on the trunk platform. Due to the depth of the subwoofer box, the apre cannot be accessed without removing the box as well as unmounting the panel, allowing the trunk floor/platform to be lifted.

I know a solution and a guide has to exist, I'm just anxious to find it.. I don't fancy paying the installation shop 600 dollars to do what I can do myself in an afternoon with the plans.

Any thoughts or comments on solutions any here have used? My forum search revealed nothing.

Any pics would be awesome, too!

I built a custom enclosure for a shallow mount 12" sub. It's shallow enough that I can access the spare and I have a keyed fast latch mechanism to remove the sub in a few seconds. Amp sits on a shelf in the left wheel well portion. Look into my CD page and I posted some build pictures here a while back.

Single seal FG enclosure at the right corner of trunk. I believe that's the best way for the long run. space saving. If you have non-SE camry, you can still pop the rear seat down for more cargo space.

Mount the amps under your seats, there's a lot of room under the front seats. Then make a fiberglass box where you see fits to your liking. I think that would be the easiest way... and sometimes it's not as easy as you think. Just my opinion.

making a custom fit fiber glass box is not easy...not by any means for a beginner. Their are some custom fiber glass boxes out their for the left wheel weel area in the trunk.

Amps under the seat...no from my point of view

a) I have no room their, powered seats + HVAC vents + JBL amp makes it tight
b) many mono-amps are a tad larger/longer
c) many mono-amps like to be in a better ventilated area

...leaves you with a lot of constraint what size and type the amp can be. I have Class D Alpine M500...and would not want to fit that relative small and efficient (less heat) amp under my seat...

And back in 2001 ppl said installing remotestrt was hard....pshh! If you have verbal skills you can google up and learn how to do it. I don't like discouragement especially over the net.

By what standard is FG is not easy?

well, google it up as you requested and find out.

I did use FG a lot for various purposes and making
a) a good looking and fitting FG sub enclosure
b) a good sounding FG sub enclosure

did not appear to that easy. Sure, anybody can clump some FG together and call it a sub enclosure.

I'm running a USAMPS 600X under the passenger seat and can still utilize the vents with no problems. The amp gets warm to the touch but thats about it!

I have a 1000 watt mono block amp under my driver's seat and a 600 watt 4ch under my passenger seat. I have powered seats, vents, and the 4ch amp took the place of the jbl amp, and very happy with the placement. And the cab of the vehicle is more times than not, cooler than the trunk on any given day and has a lot more circulation (if thats what you are worrying about) for the amp versus in the trunk behind a "custom" beauty plate. You ARE limited to what kind of amps you get to choose, but thats what you have to figure out before you buy. Bottom line, the cheaper the amp, the more you have to worry about in the long run (most of the time). I install car audio for a living, and have been doing it for a while, and thats the most common problem I see. Once again, just my opinion. Hope it helped
