Adjusting Valve Clearances - 4 cyl Camry

I am rebuilding a 2004 Camry, 4 cylinder, 2.4, and the machine shop surfaced the head and did a valve job.

I am putting the motor back together now. I checked the valve clearances and the intake is suppose to be .008 to .011, and mine are:
.007/.010 .009/.009 .011/.011 .009/.009

On the exhaust, the specified range is .012 to .016. Mine are
.008/.009 .009/.009 .011/.011 .009/.009

I assume I need to get the cleanances with the range. Seeing that mine are on the tight side, I assume the only way to get the correct clearance is to get new lifters? If it is, should I shoot for being more towards the tight side to start out?

If I was you, I Did'nt change the intake valves. Your outlets are going to damage if you drive with such clearance.
I changed mine some time ago and used the tip of my dealer. Don't remove the chain tensioner. From the inside you can push an iron pen towards the tensioner and block this with an screw or something. So the tensioner won't go tighten when you remove the chainwheel. I hope this helps you.

I'd aim toward the loose side. .010 on the intake and .015 on the exhaust. Which means if everything is already apart, might as well do all of them. See if you can swap the buckets around first to cut down on the number you need to buy.

Did the shop replace the valve stem seals? I'm surprised they didn't do the clearances or at least tell you?

Yes they put new seals on. I thought they might try to set the clearances as they had me bring the cam shafts to them. They might of tried to get them some what close but not in spec. In reading the Toyota workshop manual they say .0094 for intake and .0138 for exhaust. If I shoot for those then I can swap 4 lifters around and have to buy 12 new ones. I might look at a little looser and see what the mix is.
