Tire Review

hello all,

ive been lurking for a while but i have a question where i could use some help. i checked the tire fitment thread but i couldnt find the proper info.

im looking to add 18" Mazda rims to my 04 camry LE. I need some input as to what the difference will be from 225/45R18 vs 225/50R18 on a stock height. Can anyone out there post up pics of the difference?

Also, can anyone recommend a decent all season tire with low road noise?

thanks in advance

Tire stuff here

Go to tirerack.com

Click on "Survey Results" on left.

Select "All-Season" category you are interested in.

I recommend ignoring tires with:

low < 1 million miles reported

Yellow or red "would buy again"

You will need to see if the tire with high ratings is made in the size you want!

G'day

Thanks Bass,

Ive been doing that on tire rack. I dont necessarily trust the opinions of general/daily drivers. Even on the best rated tires there are random hacks that trash a great tire. Im more interested in feedback from those who really care about their vehicles and pay attention to the differences that the tire on their car is making. Kind of using the forum as a filter so that fewer opinions mean more.

Also it would be helpful to get some pics of a stock height 5th gen on 18's and with 225/45 vs 225/50

Long time lurker muself, but figured I would register to share info on my recent tire purchase.

I went with the Turanzas with Serenity. I found them at Firestone for only $10 more a tire than Tire Rack. They had a buy 3 get 1 free deal which made the sale 25% cheaper than what I could have gotten them delivered from Tire Rack for.

Seeing as I don't have much of a need to drive in winter conditions here in south Louisiana, I excluded that data in reviews and concluded they were the best based on reviews.

Besides a better ride and less road noise, my stopping ability has greatly improved. I commutte 150 miles daily mostly interstate and I set the cruise control at 90mph for 60+ miles a day. Once I get off of I-12 and on to I-10 it becomes more of a bobbing and weaving game and with these tires I am in total control.

I hope this helps.

2003 Camry LE 130K and going strong.

I went with michlein primacys for my camry. Quiet, good cornering, good gas mileage. Best tires I have had on a car. Waited for one of the $70 off sales. Bought them at discount tires - great to deal with.

I see 812 reviews for one particular tire covering 11 million miles. I seriously doubt that this tire got to the top from unhappy buyers reporting them as good.

Surely you are not suggesting you would consider a tire at the bottom of the list, if someone on here claimed they were outstanding?

I researched tires to death on tirerack and elsewhere and concluded the Primacy was the way to go. Then in NOV 2009 Consumer Reports rated it the number one tire.

Now, 21,000 miles later, they show almost no wear on my 09 LE V6 and they are quiet, great handling etc etc. I swear by them and put a set on the wifes Lexus ES, too.

The difference between them and the worthless OEM Turanzas (that wore out in 8500 miles) that came on the camry was startling ........ felt like a totally different and better car.
