Rough Shifting - Significant Engine Deceleration

I've posted on other toyota forums with little luck. I'm new to Toyota Nation and hopefully can get some feedback.

I purchased an '08 Camry LE V6 certified used in June '10. Car runs great and has about 50,000 miles on it. Ever since the new car hype wore off i've noticed that the car shifts relatively hard. The most annoying part is when i'm gently braking to stop at a light and the car shifts from 2nd to 1st there is a lot of engine breaking that occurs and quickly stops my car before my destination. All I can do right now is try to time the down shift and let off the brake pedal to make a smooth shift into 1st. This is the fourth Camry i've owned and the first problem like this.

Is there any maintenance or service that needs to be done to fix this problem? Hopefully (but not holding out for) something that is cover under my power-train warranty? Has anyone else even had this problem?

I appreciate any feedback.
Thanks,

Maybe that's why the previous owner got rid of it. IMO CPO is a gimmick.

The 08 V6 uses the same Aisin U660E transmission that had flare problems out of the factory. Looking at discussions Toyota apparently knew about it but it shipped anyway. So some owners got new transmissions but still the same problem. IMO the newer U-series are problematic clunkers compared to the old A-series.

You can check with the dealer and see if it's ever had reprogramming done, but that won't cure a hardware related problem. Another thing after they've done all they can is to drop the pan, replace the filter and fill with new ATF (WS? If so Valvoline MaxLife ATF is an alternative, check label for the thinner, newer formulation). After filter service maybe google up the adaptation procedure somewhere (like shifting from N to D/R a certain times, etc). And see if that helps.

If that doesn't lessen or cure the problem, see if the dealer will offer an exchange and maybe you pay a little. I wonder how the dealer will react to this CPO. Of course, there are other brands too.
