Hey,
I'm thinking about adding a sunroof to my car. Has anyone ever done this to an '07 Camry before? If so, how much was the total cost and is it worth it?
There are several companies out there that will do aftermarket sunroofs, and you can even pick the kind you want....simple pop up, tilt up/down, or fully open/close. The fully open/close kind is going to run you about $1000-$1300, easily, while a manual pop up one will run you a few hundred dollars. Most of them come with warranties, however, over time, aftermarket assemblies tend to leak more often than factory ones.

I would never again put an aftermarket sunroof on any of my cars. If it isn't done at the factory, I would not recommend doing it. IMO, you are only headed for problems later.

Im sure Totopartsman will chime in again, but I also have an aftermarket sunroof story. Used to have a pop up one in an old Sunfire....every time it rained I'd get in the seat, drive home 2 miles, and be completely soaked on my backside. Same for snow. Major PITA. I could have taken the glass completely out and it would have made no difference, lol.

It leaked. it also would a puddle would form in the corner and leak. What was so bad is that if it rained, and only a little bit got in the car, it would leak onto the sunroof and sit there. I would get in and pull the sunroof down and it would either end up on my lap or on the seat. Just a Major PITA NEVER AGAIN, NEVER.

damn. ok i think i dont want a sunroof anymore. haha. ill just upgrade my stock speakers.
I have had two of them done in past cars with 0 problems. Of course if you go with the cheapest installer you get what you pay for. on my last car the sunroof looked totally stock. A sunroof is just like the AC in your house, brand is important but installer is number 1! I also have two tone leather and seat heaters going in at the same time. The leather is from Katzkin.
I am going with webasto for the third time. My fav feature is the auto close feature when it starts to rain.
Funny you ask cause I will be getting mine done next Tuesday.
not really. Find a place that has a warranty for leaks and any faults in the future. and get them to put that in writing and sign it. if they wont give it, dont do it with them.

I find it interesting that most people with "problem stories" have had them done far in the past.
Problems happen. Even bad cars roll off the assembly line.
I had an aftermarket Webasto put in my 2005 Grand Prix and had no leaks. Only thing that got me was when I would accidently leave it open or vented and it rained. Then we'd have problems. I dont know about rain sensing units, but if you make sure you close it, you shouldn't have any problems. Ask around the various dealerships and they'll probably all rattle off at least one common name. Then check with them for references and warranties.
