Question Knock Sensor & 4th Gear

Can a bad knock sensor cause vehicle not to shift into 4th? Replaced the 2.4 in my 2002 Camry (auto) with another 2.4 from a 2007 with 18K. Motor runs great and mechanic said it sounds like it came out of the showroom. After the swap, engine light was on and code said knock sensor. Sensor from replacement engine used so mechanic replaced with the one from original engine, but enginie light still stays on.

First trip in morning shifts through all gears but stop or slow down and no more 4th. New 175 thermostat, which goes to the midpoint on the guage in short order. Mechanic said best bet to take to Toyota dealer who can do a scan and get a better diagnosis. Have that set up, but since I know they are going to say bad knock sensor for starters, checking whether the two can be related or possibly some other easy fix. Thanks!!!

Did not receive any replies to my question, but if you are interested here is the rest of the story:

Short answer when the engine was replaced, the knock sensor was not plugged back in;

Knock sensors rarely go bad, except that a bad knock sensor (or one not plugged in) screws up the timing information to the transmission for shifting. (My non technical understanding of the cause)

Toyota dealer identified the problem (used a bore scope to snake under the intake manifold, had a hunch since the engine was replaced and knock sensors don't normally go bad) and I took it back to my engine installer who said "oh poop" and corrected it in short order.
