5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
My wife has been complaining about a dragging sound when she hits a bump. I drove it the other day and she is right, drives me nuts too.
It almost sounds like it's from the drivers side front, sounds like a mudflap or a rubber splashguard is hanging down and dragging. I looked under the car but I don't see anything. Unfortunately I have a project vehicle in the garage and it's too cold to work on it outside. Anyone else experience this

Its a plastic or rubber sounding rub, definately not metal. A small bump doesn't make the noise, just a larger one.
Didn't really look in the wheel well but I have looked under the car. I'm wondering if a splash guard got turned inside out or something during an oil change.
I haven't owned this car long and I'm embarrased to say that I don't know much about it yet. I have a Tacoma that I put 135K on, I know that one well. I'm trying to rely on you're expertise to save me a cold cwawl under...LOL

Thanks for your patience, i just realized the question you asked was already answered in your original post.
I'd agree with the other comments, either splash guard or the plastic housing in one of the wheel wells has come loose and your tire hits it on a bump.

they don't touch the splash guard during an oil change... but if you drive through lots of snow, it could pull down your splash guard like mine did
it's an easy fix though, did you really look under the car?
Good point. The splash guards under the car may look like they are in place, but if the fasteners that hold them to the undercarriage are gone, they will flap when you go over a bump.

I turned the wheels lock to lock and looked as best I could in the pouring rain. Nothing looks out of place that I can see but it obviously needs a closer look. I also opened the hood to look, not much can be seen.
I see some plastic panels that look to be permanently fastened and I can see the rubber flaps. So far nothing looks out of place.

are your fender liners properly secured? May be your tire hitting your liner when hitting bumps. Not sure what the dragging sound is, but just a thought.

did you get in front of the car and look under? you can see the splashguards if you have an i4 I think... but a quick check under the front of the car you'll see it
I relocated a fastner from one side cause the fastner in the middle of my 2 splashguards popped out then I used some string I had in my garage to tie it closer to the frame
