5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
So I went to see my bud who owns a car audio shop today and I've been debating what to do as far as a system goes for my car. I ride in the 2007 SE fully loaded with the JBL speakers stock. I also added an Alpine touch screen. Only thing left - subs!
I was debating two W3 10", one 10" W7 etc. All from JL only, I love JL.
He threw me an offer. He's had a 12" W7 in his SUV for about 6 months to try out. He's not a young guy and he's straight up - he never beat it up. He said I could take his 12" W7 with a custom made ported box enclosure custom made from JL audio themselves (red and grey felt model box) with a 1000W JL audio amp for $1600 cash (with install). The box and sub combo retails $1300 and the exact same price for the amp.
He said if I want to use dynamat to deaden the rattles it'll run me $300 cash if I got his guys to do my entire trunk all over.
What's your opinions people!?!?!? I'm stuck because the W7 is AMAZING and I don't know if I should pay that even though it clearly is a deal.
just a heads up before a moderator flips out on you, i'm just trying to help you out man...you don't have to start a new thread for everything you think of, plus i replied in your other thread. again not trying to be a ass or anything.
I'd rather they left my thread up here though. It's a forum for open discussion. I just want a mix of reviews on concerns of mine, you know what I mean? I'm not that advanced when it comes to car stuff especially speaker systems so that's why I did this thread.
I would like people, just like you, to give me their opinions on my offer and it'll start a lengthy thread full of opinions and arguments - I think it's a good thing.
Hopefully they don't get that taken back from it. I joined this site to gain knowledge and I think it's absolutely fair to have open discussions and new threads.
Yeah i know what you mean, but just some people on here are anal about the same people starting a new thread all the time. haha, but take a look at your other thread, couple people responded.
honestly what you listed above is really overpriced. JL audio has some great stuff but its too dam expensive and i think $1600 with install is a rip. I would go with two 10in w3v3's with a 1000 watt amp and call it good. If you go with the w7, its really heavy and with that in your trunk, your car will be sluggish and slow, and you will need a crap ton of dampening to kill all the rattles. In the end its really up to you, if you have the cash then go for it, but imo w7's and their amps are over rated and you can get better for a lot cheaper.

My quote on a new W3 10" is $240. If I get 2, how much would a box run me? and should they require a 1000w amp?
Also, should my stock JBL speakers be hooked up to an amp? I have a spare 250w Hurricane amp.

My husband (coincidentally named Jesse) had 2 10" inch JL audio subs and a 850 watt amp with a capacitor and bass knob that he bought for $400 and installed himself. It sounded amazing at low volume but it had the capacity to wake up the whole neighborhood if you really wanted. $1600 is a ton of money. I'd spend that if I was considering competition, but just for a little extra kick in your sound system....not really worth it, IMO.

With a proper tuned box, this thing will be more than enough. I read some reviews on thsi sub and it apparantly will be even better than the W7 , but are you willing to spend 900$ on a sub and an amp? or the 1600 in that case. Look at what kind of products your getting. Your getting into the high end stuff. Will your alternator even be able to handle this kind of power?
