5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have searched everywhere and to my understanding, the cabin air filter is behind the glove box. For hours, I cannot seem to lower the glove box to where I can access the back part. I couldn't find any detailed instructions on how to take it out. I squeezed the sides as hard as I can to get the hinges out of the socket and to no avail, it's been a frustrating thing. Any good soul here knows how to do it the right way? Man, I feel like an idiot on this. I'm trying to do the same thing for the 2002 corolla too but to no avail.
Don't be afraid to "beat it up a little". Sometimes, when I've done it, I get one side out, and while holding it to make sure it doesn't pop back in, I'll put a lot of my body weight on the other side, and usually it will pop out completely.
Keep trying, you'll get it.

Sorry about that! But I think you described it better than me.
On one note....not all glove boxes have the screw to take out. They're a million times easier to take out without it, lol.

This is true. Sometime you just need to beat it and hope it goes your way.
Man, I tried and tried and tried and I couldn't get the the plastic tabs off, I got one side off (towards the driver's side) but I couldn't get the other side off. I busted my ass for it to no avail.
Man, I wished there was an illustration on how to do it a little easier.
I have a Camry but I think the Solara has the same arrangement. Shine a light inside the glove box[empty of junk] and you can see the stops molded into the sides of the glove box. That is where you push in to get those stops to clear the dash housing. I change my 2004 every 2 years and have had no trouble getting the door out.
^I know about the plastic stops on the sides, those are the ones I have trouble getting them out. One side is REALLY hard I was about to have an aneurysm pulling it out, the other side is ok. And man, do all 2003 camry solara have CAF? I've read that not all of them, I called toyotapartscenter.net to order a CAF and gave them the VIN, they don't have it as an item. The 02 corolla does, so I'm beginning to think that the 03 Solara doesn't have CAF. I don't want to call the toyota service centers coz they might just lie about it.
Wix,Fram,Purolator et.al. all make aftermarket replacement CAFs for most cars. Look in the Walart Fram catalog to see if you Solara is listed. I can't see the 2002-2011 Camrys having a CAF and not the Solara.Look at a Purolator of Wix internet site to see if you car is listed. We are not talking rocket science here.I decided to search Purolator application site and found this. No CAF listed for the 2003 Solara. The 2004 uses CAF#A35432. Maybe your Solara made the cut and got the CAF. You might try an inspection mirror and see if you can see if a CAF is installed. The holder for the CAF on my Camry is an off white while the rest of the housing is black. Hope this helps. Regards

^like they said, work on one side at a time. After you get one side out, do the same, just make sure you don't yank it upwards, or it might pop back in.
After you have it off, make sure the bottom hinges are all the way popped in, or it will seem 'crooked.'

Open the glove box, on the right side there is like a retractable hinge with a screw in it. Remote the screw and disconnect it ... and i believe you need to have the box open and towards the back of the box, put a hand on both sides and bend it inwards ... and it should come right out...
