The location of the starter is always at the mating area b/t the engine and the transmission.
removal: battery, air box
starter removal: two wires(1. connector 2. bolted 8-10mm), two bolts at the flange (14 or 17mm).
then swap it out with a new one. btw, in the future if you want to rebuild it, you will need to buy a kit that include one plunger and two contacts. That will repair your starter and save you a hundred bucks or two.
