2002 XLE Hit 180K this week

Well it made it to 180K now it's on to 250K In the past week I have installed 4 Michelin Primacy tires, new battery and replaced the stereo (CD did'nt work ). The head bolts were replaced (hole problem) at 142K and the car still gets 36 MPG on the highway. Oh, had to replace the hose to the PCV, but thats it!

Drive well

can you explain your occurrence with the head bolt? How did you determine your I4 needed work on the head bolt?

Head bolts

The car started dripping antifreeze as I backed into the garage. The rubber pad between the rear of the block and the plastic intake manifold was soaked. Thought it was the headgasket but when trying to remove the head bolts the back center 3 were loose. 2 in the front rounded out the spline hole and had to be drilled out. The holes in the block gave up the threads, not on removal but during the first 140K miles not sure why.

I installed Time-Sert inserts and replaced the blots along with a few other things. Total was around $750 (included the Time-Sert kit) and 3 days labor.

The block is better than it was new and don't think that problem will come back. I don't think all I4's have this issue might be 10 to 15%.

Thanks for sharing your experience. It seems like it happens to more and more 2002 camry I4 and I haven't seen any complaint about the 07+ 4cyl. I hope it doesnt happen.

My 02 LE Japan spec. hit 221,000 miles before it was totaled last month. Only had to replace the Catalytic Converter, and had a small oil leak (age & mileage). Beautiful Camry. Hope yours serves you as well as mine served me!

I have an 04 SE Japan built with 167k now and she loves life.

doesn't leak a drop of anything, gets 30+ on the road, and the only things I've replaced was an o2 sensor on the exhaust manifold(took 10 mins) and the steering shaft that ALL yotas have the problem with (3 bolts - 10 mins) --- total in parts for repair - $500 --- I'd bet most american car owners spend this in the first year, much less 7 years later

I was riding into work this morning and almost got sandwiched

I woulda been so mad, wtf would I do with these new wheels and coilovers?
