Gen6 2007 Camry whizzing cold start noise

Hi,

I have a 2007 Camry LE V6, and last year it started making a “whiz” sound for a second or so after it is started in cool/cold weather. It ~sounds like the starter motor, as if the arbor gear is not disengaged from the flywheel teeth and the engine is spinning the starter, but that’s just a guess. We had some extremely cold weather (-30 degrees F) and I heard some knocking and tapping sounds also, but the noise I am asking about is not that. It is high pitched, like a kazoo revving up. It begins to happen at about 40 degrees F, and gets progressively worse the colder the temperature is. In minus digits the noise can last 5 to 7 seconds before fading away. Anyone else experienced this?

Mine is doing this also. It sounds like the starter is not disengaging fast enough.

dealer states normal

I have had my 07 V6 in every winter overnight so the dealer can listen to this cold start whizzing and they state it is normal. I was worried the teeth would be getting shredded off the starter leaving me with a big post warranty repair bill so they noted it and it still occurs. Only on cold days , colder than 30 degrees or so.

I have a Camry 3.5L V6 built in Japan also makes the same noise. In my city the lowest temperature in the morning could der of 25 degrees Celsius. Many cars like mine have reached the concessionaire with the same noise, there have been many tests and did not know what to do, have chosen to tell the owners that noise is normal, in fact there is no fault in the car for that noise.Escuchar
