Gen5 Keys will not open any locks

So I had searched for days and can't come up with an answer.
I seen a lot of threads about keys and locks but my problem is a different.
I just bought a used 2002 Camry XLE V6. It came with two keys and a remote. The remote can lock and unlock all doors and trunk. I can auto lock and unlock all doors with the push button on the driver and passenger lock mechanism. But I can’t do anything with my keys besides using it to drive. Both keys do not work on any lock including the glove box.

Now one key is black which according to the manual is the master key.
The other one is gray which is the valet key. Both keys will not lock or unlock any locks. I would like to get it to work with the lock just in case I lose the remote.

You didn't mention if it worked the ignition but I'll presume that it does. Sounds like someone repossessed the car, had the ignition switch changed out and rekeyed but did not rekey the rest of the car, so the remote works all the outside locks and the key handles the ignition. You need to rekey the whole car to match the keys, or go to the dealer and with the vin number they can make keys for the original keyset. Good luck with that.

Yes the key works with the ignition. I don't think it was a repossessed car.
It has one owner and was traded in to a shop that only sells exotic cars like Ferrari, lambo, Porsche, Austin martian. When I insert they key into the door locks, I can turn the key left to right.

Most likely the ignition had been replaced and they didn't change the rest of the locks. All of the locks are not going to simply fail.

OH wait. You CAN turn the locks with the key?

Key Issues

I had a similar issue where my key would only turn clockwise in the doors (i believe clockwise is to lock the doors). I could not turn it counterclockwise (from right to left), as it turned out my key was worn out. I went to the dealer and they made me new ones. The new keys work in the door locks and the ignition. I havent tried the glove box or trunk yet.

I dont know if it is the same issue as yours but i wanted to mention it just so you had more info.

If your keys turn the ignition and door key hole, then your keys do work. If turning the door(driver and passenger) key hole does not unlock, then you need to check the linkage from the door key cylinder to the door latch.

I had checked the linkage and it was fine. And that fact that I could lock the doors proved that as well. I thought it was odd that a worn key could turn one way and not the other. I even found the 2nd key I got with the car originally, and that worked as well.

Thanks for sharing you issue but I think mine is different since both set of keys don't work.

Can I go to the dealer and make new keys according to the ignition key hole?

They can make keys upto $3.00 based on the VIN number, unless you have the microchip in your key. I thought mine did because it had a rubber base but turns out it didn't have the microchip.
