5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I am looking to purchase a 2007 Camry V6 with 75,000km from a Toyota Dealership. I am hesitant to buy it as I've heard of many problems with this car (transmission issues).
Any advise, suggestions would be greatly appreciate.
At the end of the day, the problems you mentioned are greatly overstated. The transmission fix was a firmware update that the dealer should already have done, but check, and a replacement hose connector on an external oil line on the rear bank, again that should already have been done. If it drives nice and hasn't been wrecked, it should be fine. The only design issue is the water pump. If it fails it is expensive. Not the pump itself, but the labor. The engine must be disconected and lifted up to gain access to the pump. Ouch.

It's a good idea to buy from a Toyota dealer and make sure it's a certified used car. That way if there is any problems with the drivetrain you'll be covered. I made sure I did!

Don't buy a 2007 Camry V6 with the 6 spd. automatic tranny. Three transmissions and two firmware updates later and they still can't get rid of the shift/flare problem in my car. Thank God, I have the extended warranty cause I know I'll need it sometime in the future. There are some people out there who have the problem and aren't aware of it because of their driving style. If you're an aggressive driver like me you're sure to notice it.

I had the flare when I purchased my SE but the latest firmware update got rid of it completely and yes I am an aggressive driver. If you still have it after the latest update (#4) then the trans is probably a warranty concern. If it goes on too long then you will burn out the clutches. I would escalate the problem to your extended warranty company (I hope its Toyota extra-care or Toyota certified) and get that new trans you deserve.

^ Can't you read? Thats what I've been doing. I report the problem each time and get either a firmware update, a new tranny or a denial that there is a problem . I'm just warning other potential buyers of a possible problem!

You forgot about 75+ something TSBs that affect the 2007s. It's a first gen model that has a lot more smaller problems than just serious catastrophic ones (which it also has).
I share LOV's sentiment too, I'm keeping my car forever but to buy another Toyota is just foolishness after having experienced one. Maybe in 10 years when Toyota does a Ford and starts making better cars.
