Yes. Let it idle awhile. It will take a long time. Same thing happened in my 04 Camry. Try holding down the brake and putting it into neutral for a little bit too.

This is what everybody does at work and it seems to work for them, I dunno as I have never tried it but it seems plausible to me. Good luck and let us know.

the alternator was making a knocking noise, my camry would sound like a disel truck or something, at first i thought something was wrong with the engine, but after checking it i found it was coming from the alternator. it took about 60 miles to get to normal idling, i also let it idle for 15-20 minutes, runs very smooth now.
Sounds to me like your car is idling at a healthier range because it was working a lot harder to get the voltage it needed out of the alternator before...
Check the idle speed when the engine is warmed up with the car in neutral and you might see it up around 600 rpms.
Double check all the connections you made to your alternator & belt tension too.

Same thing happen to me in my 2007 Toyota Camry SE, this Texas heat has been killing my battery so when I went and replace it with a new one the car started to idle rough. Like what Dennis said between 500-450 rpm so i guess its normal to let the computer relearn itself... But its taking so long
I cleaned throttle body some time ago.
after I started the car RPM went up to almost 1500RPM.
took about 5-7min + 3-5 miles for my car to come back to normal idling.
I've read that after disconnecting battery RPM getting unstable because ECU looses info on normal position of the throttle body.
in cars with throttle by wire it need to be reprogramed.
you can reprogram it by turning ignition ON (do not start) and slowly pressing accelerator pedal to floor and back couple times.
never done it myself, but read about it on acura and some other forums.
