Check VSC system, engine warning, traction control, locked in park

When I turned on my 2007 V6 Camry to go to work this morning (24,000 miles) the warning light, and traction light came on, along with the message "VSC Check System" on the display in my speedometer. I know this has been discussed, but it also locked me out of shifting from drive, unless I pressed the manual override switch left of the shifter.

I am going to Auto Zone tonight to have it checked out, but is this merely a VSC problem and basically safe to drive, or is there a deeper problem as other threads have eluded to?

Perhaps related, when I hit ten MPH the first time coming out of park, there is a distinct thud, only the first time put into drive and hitting this speed. It is not the transmission, as it happens whether locked in first or in second already. I mentioned it at my last oil change to the dealership, and they said it was the ABS system check.

Help?

The "thud" is the ABS/VSC going through a normal check of the system. My 2004 Camry does this and that subject has been discussed in the last several days. To test the ABS system, get out on a big empty parking lot or deserted road and make a panic stop from 30 or 40 mph. If the ABS is working, you should hear it and feel the back pressure through the brake pedal. The VSC is part of the ABS system. You may have a problem with the yaw rate sensor which I believe is mounted under the center console. I didn't know that a problem with the ABS/VSC would keep the car from being placed in drive. I don't have VSC on my Camry so I can't comment on that system. I would bet though that both systems are ok and a glitch has occurred. Either way, your car is safe to drive as long as the bake warning light isn't on. That would mean you are low on brake fluid. Other members will have advice on the ABS/VSC system. Regards.

If you have HID's and you mounted your ballasts too close to said components that you are having trouble with, then they may very well be the culprit. Cheap kits give off a high pitched noise that messes with the sensitive ABS/Trac/VSC module.

I drove my old car for a year with the Brake and ABS lights on. The brake fluid was fine, it turned out to be a bad ABS sensor. However, my braking abilities were not affected at all, except with the lack of ABS (which I didn't mind).

i have just inherited a 2002 highlander with the "check engine " light on and "VSC" light on. Do I need to go to a dealer to get it turned off or just drive with it on? 106k miles.
