Electrical Problems...Fuse?

Hi there-

New to the forums and I'm hoping someone can help me.

2005 Camry.

Car hasn't been driven much so it has died the last month or so and jump started twice. First time it was jump started, everything was fine. Second time came problems. Battery was bad, so that was replaced. Battery was OEM, so it was definitely time.

Now, the car starts up, but I have no gauges, power windows, radio, or HVAC control (automatic climate control so it is power up). The headlights work.

Thinking it could be the alternator, but since I have no gauges, I don't really want to go get out on the highway and drive to a shop since there is construction right by my house and it would take me around 10 miles to get to one since I have to go out of my way.

Could it be a fuse? I looked at a few of the fuses, but they looked fine. Any in particular?

Any ideas would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Well in particular the fuses for gauges, power windows, radio and hvac. For starters, check the voltage at the battery with the engine running. It should be in the 14.5 volt range. If not then the alternator is not charging and this can be simple or hard. Assuming it is good, check the fuses uner the hood and then trace down where the failure is.

I did check those gauges. That's why I'm asking the question. They seem or "look" fine. I pulled those out, but not any of the others. Wondering if there isn't a master something...Battery is brand new. I'm thinking the alternator might be bad, but I'm not thinking the alternator would play an immediate roll in electrical issues. Would it? The radio and HVAC, power windows, etc. should work if the battery is charged. I would at least like to get the gauges working so I can take the vehicle to get the alternator tested. Thanks for the replies.

I'm at a loss.

There are two fuse panels, did you check both?

I did...the one in the engine compartment as the spare fuse does seem to be burnt out, but its a spare, so it shouldn't have any bearing, right?

Why would the spare be blown? Did you try checking the fuses with a multimeter instead of just visually? I think it's prob the alternator too.

Get a $2.95 multimeter and check the alternator with the engine running. Should see 14.5/14.8 volts across the battery terminals. I would guess that several fuses were blown while you were jump starting the car. Check the fuses for the equipment that does not work with the ohm function. Often times, it it hard to visually see if a fuse is open. Regards.I have never seen a spare fuse that was blown. Somebody probably placed a blown fuse in the spare position. Regards.
