5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have a bone stock 04 camry le with the 3.0v6. Ive looked everywhere for exhaust systems and i can't find any.. just individual parts and exhaust tips. I want to put in a CAI too, ive seen a lot of different brands and i want some input, ive seen mainly K&N, Injen, and some others. Also is it possible to drop a turbo or a supercharger in the 3.0 if it has vvt-i? any help on some mods i can drop in would be a great help.
going to be custom work for a full exhaust system. if youre specificly looking for a CAI, that will also be custom since i dont know of one for the v6.
with vvt-i, turbo is possible, but a supercharger isnt.
ive been looking everything seems to be for the four banger, idk why that is youd think the v6 would have more performance upgrades, and i dont understand why the gen5 in particuliar has little to no upgrades avaliable, the gen 4 does and the gen 6 does. I understand this is a car built for gettin the Jones family to the grocery store and back not for going 0-60 in under 7 seconds but still.

yeah, it just happened to not have alot of attention. anything involving a turbo will be custom, it just wouldnt be profitable for a company to make full on turbo kits for our cars.
i find it funny you mentioned 7 seconds. my car hits 0-60 in roughly 7 seconds lol
it sucks though, cause i dont know how to boost performance because no company makes an exhaust system, or has a turbo or anything for the vvt-i that the v6 has, them dudes that have TRD i think run s/c's and shit like that but ive heard its because of the electronic throttle response or some b.s like that in the vvt-i that doesnt allow for supercharging. And the only cai's ive seen are the K&N69, the Injen one, and the Weapon R, out of those three i don't know what i'd get anyway without an exhaust system besides maybe a different idle sound

There is more aftermarket support for the Gen 5, than the Gen 6. You just have to search for it. But really, you mostly have to go custom to get what you really want.
i always thought it was the other way around. gen 5 doesnt have a CAI for it as far as i know, dont know of any full exhaust systems, and i think the gen 6 has more companies making coilovers for it.
i'm not familiar with camrys that dont have vvt-i in them (ie TRD) and i know there are a lot of aftermarket parts avaliable for the 2.4 4cyl.. but i havent found anything besides a couple CAI's for the 3.0 6cyl.. and to which someone above me said that without an exhaust upgrade or a tuner chip you wouldnt feel it anyway.. I'd like to know what mods people with the 6cyl 5gen are running

No No, i didn't say anything about a tuner chip, those are a waste of money. Period. And even with the Intake you won't feel any gains with exhaust and Intake. The only way you will feel power gains is if you turbo or Supercharge.
VVT-i isn't anything to do with TRD either. TRD is a brand. They make Rear Sway bars, Strut bars, springs, Air filters, Rims, Supercharger (for the V6), and other accessories for "looks" I.e. Rad cap, oil cap, badging.. For the Gen 5 Camry.
people with 5 gen 6 cyl are mostly stock engine, maybe a ram air intake here and there. i remember a while back that someone had a turbo for the 6cyl but that was only one person, and i dont even remember who it was.
also, all gen 5s have VVT-i which changes the valve timing to allow air scavenging by having overlap between the intake and dexhaust valves. with a supercharger, the air and fuel would just go right through the intake valve into the exhaust valve because of the boost pressure on the intake side.
the turbo would provide back pressure to keep more of the fuel air mixture inside the cylinder.
if you really want to look for power, youll really have to go with a custom turbo job and a piggyback ecu.
^ Not all Gen 5 V6's do. 02-04 does not have VVT-i. (the SE V6 in 04 does however). The easiest way to check, look at the engine cover it says it right on there.
The guy that Turbo'd his Gen 5 actually had an I4. unless there was someone else that i'm not aware of.
