5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I woke up this morning ready to go to work. Came to the back of my house to get in my car and i find this!
Yea sucks had to get it replaced right away came out to 308 bucks for a new window and now I am trying to figure out if I can get this dent fixed like how much do you think it would run me or if it is even worth it?
The paint is chipped away and can see bare metal and I know that's bad. I have to see the adjuster tuesday but is there anything i should do right now? to prevent possible rusting or anything like that?
Any help would be appreciated. I get OCD about these things it's not a big eyesore but i know it's there and I want it gone...
I'll take a guess at $100 to repair it. Take it around to local body shops and get estimates. That way you'll know if you should go through insurance (repair cost>more than deductible) or do it on your own (repair cost<deductible).
You can put a piece of blue painter's tape over it for now.

Yea they stole my old sd500 camera got it for free. and my garmin 285 WT gps. i know shouldn't leave things in the car but those two things don't matter to me plus they are hidden. GPS is a pain because you don't know when you're going to go out so i have to either remember to bring it all the time or just leave it there.
But yea the Dent is the main thing bothering me because even with the window that's already replaced.
100 bucks doesn't sound too bad. I need to get an estimate sucks i am working today and tomorrow but i do have off monday guess i can look into it before tuesday with the adjuster.
just want it gone.
Thanks for the information though but in the meantime should I do something to cover it up/ don't want any rust or anything like that occurring.
Yeah it's repairable, and my guess would be about 2-300 bucks just to match the paint back up.
damn 2-300 that sucks but i guess the insurance can cover it. i do have one of those paint touch up things in the little bottle from toyota. but i'm sure i'd just do a lame job.

Yes, insurance can cover it but you have to pay a deductible first. If the damage does not cost more than the deductible, you're better off paying out of pocket. If you're deductible is $500, that $500 is coming out of your pocket anyways.
So if it costs less than $500, don't even bother going to insurance. If the damage was over $500 and say it was $1000 worth, $500 comes out of your pocket and insurance company pays the difference.
i already paid 308 dollars for the window and installing it... Since the breaking of the window and the dent are under the same claim. I have 192 left in my deductable if it exceeds that they would have to pay the rest i believe right?

If you already filed a claim with your insurance company, it should of been handled at the same time. They should have also sent an adjuster to look at the damage and assess the cost. After looking, they would of written a check or sent you to one of their shops to have it repaired.
That should of been the proper way of handling a claim. But the math calculation is correct. You will cover the remaining $192 and any remaining balance will be covered by the insurance company so as long you have the proper insurance protection.
Also, you need to make sure if your insurance will go up. Some will jack up your premium and some don't.

Thanks for the info, Yea I am with Geico and they said it wasn't my fault so my premium shouldn't be going up. Yea i filed a claim they gave me the number to a place that could replace the window and that's who I went to. They scheduled a time for me to see about the dent and meet with an adjuster which is this Tuesday at this body shop. So i'm just going by what they're telling me at the time I called them and made the claim.
They said since I had a deductable up to 500 is out of my pocket and they will cover the rest. the adjuster will come out tuesday take a look and see how much it will be and if they'll need to write me a check. I have full coverage which is needed since the car is being financed and i have 500 deductable which is required because it's a vehicle being financed. so yea just hoping it's not too costly to fix the dent.
Won't your insurance also pay for the items that were stolen from the car? Is that part of the $500 deductible or will that be a separate deductible? Just something else to think about when talking to your insurance company.

Hmm that is of interest. I did inform them that my gps was stolen and camera. the camera means nothing to me though would need another gps though. person didn't mention anything about stolen items being covered. but thanks i will look into that.
It all depends on the type of coverage you have on your car. More than likely not and if they do, you won't get much. You're paying car insurance, so it will cover the car only..not personal property. If that was the case, I think my car was broken into and a bag with $100,000 was stolen or my $10,000 ring. However, if you have home owners insurance, it may cover stolen property. Just like a house being robbed, you may need a police report. Items that are permanently attached to your car may be covered. Unattached items are not covered in most cases.
A little google searching will answer the questions..
Typically comprehensive coverage does not cover personal items stolen out of your vehicle. Comprehensive coverage is there to mainly cover the vehicle, not the personal items within it. So if the car was stolen then you could place a comprehensive claim for the value of the vehicle, not usually though for the personal items within it.
Automobile insurance policies normally only pay for auto-related equipment, not personal items stored in a car. If you had personal items, such as clothing, luggage, gifts, laptop, CDs, money, etc. that were stolen from or damaged while in your vehicle, your policy may not pay for them, or may pay only a limited amount. However, if you have a homeowners or renters insurance policy, your personal property may be covered under that policy.
Contact the insurance agent that you have your homeowners or renters insurance policy through to see what you need to do to make a claim with them. You will likely need to be prepared with descriptions and receipts for all the items so that you can be properly reimbursed.
Personal effects are typically not covered on your personal auto policy however some companies may offer the ability cover these items on an endorsement basis. Your homeowners or renters policy may be able to cover your car's personal items that were stolen though. Keep in mind most of these types of policies have a $1000 coverage limit on expensive personal items such as jewelry, furs, cameras, musical instruments and fine art. You can purchase additional coverage for these items if you find this is needed, but this is something to discuss with your insurance agent for your homeowners or renters insurance policy.
you guys are giving out some good info I really appreciate that. In terms of the dent/scratch. It's showing bare metal isn't that bad shouldn't I be covering that up with something to help prevent any sort of rusting? I believe it's supposed to rain tomorrow also.

You can temporarily cover the exposed metal with any color touch-up paint you might have handy until it is repaired by an auto body shop. They will grind that right off when they do their repair.

I would avoid touching up the damage so that it could be properly assessed. I am surprised at the window though, KY covers all glass on the auto for breakage 100% and no deductible,(worth checking into for your state policies) but personnal effects are only covered by homeowners or renters policy, unless they are mounted to the vehicle, such as radios, speakers (non box type), indash GPS, etc. Hope all goes well for you, sucks that people are like that, we had a rash of break ins not long ago in my area.
