5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
FYI, My experience on my 07 Camry,LE, 4CYL., with warped rotors. At 45k first noticed vib from warped front rotors and had them turned. 5k later warped again. Just had front rotors replaced with slotted and cross drilled ones and ceramic pads. I keep you posted.
I had a problem on my older (94) Camry using ceramic pads and new cheap aftermarket rotors. They would warp within 2000 miles. I went ahead and upgraded to the better rotors (at Pep Boys) and noticed visually the difference. Although they were the same overall diameter, the more expensive rotors had more meat on the inside of the rotor and less fin area. That seemed to solve my problem. I would think the slotted and cross drilled rotors you have installed will solve your problem, as they will be better at handling the heat generated by braking.
Time and mileage will tell if the drilled/sloted rotors solve the warping problem. I have seen on some other blogs that the 07-09 Camry's have had a rotor issues. I got these rotors and pads off EBay and my brake guy said they were good qualilty, so we will see. Yes, I try to avoid water on hot rotors and I am easy on my brakes, or so I think. Thanks.
Camry is a pretty heavy car for OEM brakes. if someone "flying" alot rotprs will be warped in no time.
I got NAPA gold rotors and Wagner ceramic pads.
25+K all good.

I ordered some EBC slotted and cross drilled rotors myself last week. should come in tmr and i'll prolly install them tmror sat. i expect this to be the last pair of warped rotors i'll have with my camry as while. my stock ones r warped pretty bad

45k isn't bad for the original rotors if you drive like I do lol...I got a lot less out of my first set. But it sounds like cheap cross drilled aftermarket rotors are to blame, some sellers are drilling rotors meant to be sold as solids! Where did you buy the rotors?
I replaced my originals with brembo non drilled rotors...been doing great but im not sure there's a fitment for the gen 6. Would feel good about Napa rotors too though and as far as pads go the akebono pro acts are good.
ebc makes some good quality rotors, i would buy with caution on ebay no brand rotors though, brakes are the last thing you'd want to cheap out on, and crossdrilled rotors are more for looks than function though and they have a tendency to crack along the holes (cheap ones) also drilled rotors have decreased surface area for your pads to bite onto

No crossdrilled r meant for cooling and slotted r meant to get rid of dust quicker and also minor cooling. Which i need cuz its always so damn hott where i live

your brakes would over heat faster in that case because you have less surface area for the pads to transfer heat onto, give the link i posted a read, im not too good at explaining things lol

I had same kind and brand pads on my two cars before, they are low dust,no squick pads. like them better than toyota pads.

Well, my '07 Camry had the OEM front rotors that warped at 45K and again 5K miles later after getting them turned. I replaced them with drilled/slotted rotors, that I got from BrakeMotive on Ebay. They have a 99.9% feedback rating. They had a great price and free shipping. No rotors are made in the good old USA. All the founderies are gone, ain't that sad?? I guess it is a sign of the times. My brake guy said he thought they were good quality. But time will tell. I will keep you posted. I also read a lot of stuff about drilled vs slotted vs slotted only rotors. There is a lot of opinions out there. I think it is just what you want to believe or what sounds reasonable. Now, I do not race around in my Camry LE 4Cyl., I am into reducing my "carbon footprint". I got the racing out of my system with my last car, an '01 Maxima, which I drove a lot harder than this Camry. The front Rotors never warped and I only had them turned at 75K with new pads. The back pads lasted until 95K and then again I had the back rotors turned only because I was getting new pads.I am looking forward to testing out these new drilled/slotted rotors, if they hold up, I'll be back to buy the same for my back side. The experience will be fun. I do not think they can be any worse than the OEM brakes I just replaced.

i wasnt trying to rain on your parade or anything like that, this was just something i've read about and also observed with my friends cross-drilled rotors, just wanted to give you a heads up, depending if the rotor was casted with holes in them or had holes drilled into the rotor makes a big difference in durability (in which case, the later would be very bad)
Update on Front Rotors with ceramic pads, now over 6000 miles on the front, and so far so good. Happy enough with them to replace back OEM rotors and pads with same drilled and slotted rotors and ceramic pads. Stopping is smooth and seems to stop just as well if not better than with the OEM. But I have not actually conducted any test. The drilled and slotted rotors have gotten a few comments for appearance. I have notice very little to no brake dust, which I attribute to the ceramic pads.
