Gen 5 Stereo Upgrade - Looking for Pics

Hey all,

I have had my 2003 XLE V-6 for about a year now. I have the JBL and love the sound (far better than any infinty or Bose setup I have had before) unfortunately I am not enamored with the functionality the 6-disc in dash offers. I am looking at adding an aftermarket HU so that I can get Iphone connectivity as well as Bluetooth.

My conundrum is that I want something that looks good and for that I am leaning towards a double din DVD setup instead of a single din with the pocket above or below the HU. Unfortunately, I have only seen one install picture and it was using this http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1209582...t.html?tp=3121 mounting kit. I don't like the way the mounting kit curves in towards the stereo.

The question is:

1. Have any of you changed your HU? For such a popular car I am surprised that the only picture I can find is the stock footage on Crutchfield.
2. If you have changed your HU please share pics. Even if you went single din I would love to see what some of you have done.

Thanks,

Hi,

I changed the HU in our 2005 camry XLE with the jbl. We've changed the speakers (have a question up on the rear shelf right now as it seems different from all the older info I have to remove it), put in amps and a sub.

Used a Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD. No complaints with it. I'm sure it is probably superceeded now with something else and not sure it does all you might want, but does what I wanted. Gave me full fill on the dash rather than the single din and pocket which looks antiquated in there to me (my opinon at least) and all the features I was looking for.

Anyway, I can post a picture later when I find them on the system.

Kit wise, when I did the job I only found two. Might have change now though. I initially had the kit supplied to me that has the single din and the pocket and had to mod it to try and make it work. Did not like how it went together in so many piece at all. When all was said and done, for my particular HU and car, the kit would just not work. What happend was it would leave sections of the HU exposed that were not supposed to be and just did not fit the shape of the Pioneer. Went with the one you said you did not like. It curves to the dash well, fit like a dream and was super simple to install. When I was doing the job it was the best option that worked for me.

Might be tonight or the AM before I can get the pic up for you. Cheers

Gen5

My first headunit was a Pioneer Avic-D2, until it got jacked right out in front of my house had a slim PS2 in the glovebox, JL 10w6 in the trunk and $2k in golf clubs, and all they took was the headunit

thankfully they only broke the top clip on the dash..

then I got an Avic-D3 to replace it.. I gotta say, the D3 is AWESOME.. I've had it for a couple years now, and its been perfect.
