so i shouldnt use HID's in low beams with auto ON?
hi guys another quick ? for y'all im ordering a v-leds hid kit today but ive bin reading that you cant have the light whitch on AUTO? is that true for low-beams or just the DRL's? (yes i searched but im still confused) and do i really need a harness cuz id rather spend that extra 20 bux on some interior LED bulbs.....i just dont wanna blow stuff up
never use auto with hids, and yes get a harness, but some people say they havent had any issues without one, its just a gamble if your willing to take it. You could of posted this simple question in one of the big hid thread instead of creating a new thread.

I leave the switch in AUTO position, and everything is working normally.
Don't be cheap on the harness. It will give you a piece of mind. If something is wrong, you may end up spending more than what you think you actually save.
When starting the car at night, I have the switch in the OFF position. After it starts, i switch them to AUTO. You will see the bulbs get "weak" when starting the car in AUTO at night.

thanx for the info and sorry for the new thread broski...so i guess i will get a harness jus to be safe
it takes a helluva lotta power to start a car and a lot to ignite HID bulbs so for the battery & electrical system's sake make sure the headlights are OFF before starting at night

or in general? cuz i always leave the low beams and fogs on when i drive at night and leave them on when i get out. so in the morning when i come and turn on the car. the lights come on. is that bad? ive noticed a change in the lights when turning on the car and having the switch on. what precautions should i take with my HIDs?

not too sure, but i think it really comes down to how good your aftermarket hid ballasts are. If they are good quality it shouldnt be a problem leaving them in auto while turning on the car. if im wrong someone please correct me. For me, i have mine off since i hate having the drl's lit, so its never in auto for me anyways. I have a relay harness so when its in auto at night and i start my car, it dims a tiny bit, but i only do this every once in while.

How about other OEM HID equipped cars? I see many of them just leave the swtich in auto position. Besides, these cars have integrated their headlights into their system, so when starting, the headlights have less power than using a relay harness as ours.
The only disadvantage in the auto position is when we're going under tunnels and bridges, which may activate the headlights for a short time. HID don't like to run in a short period of time (halogen hates this too, even more in cold weather).
As long as it's not too extreme, only the bulbs are affected.
I usually leave mine on auto. No problems until I pull into my garage and the sensor may activate the lows to turn on, just depends on the time of day.
It takes a while after the sensor reaches the threshold before the light actually turns on. So going through short tunnels or overpasses shouldn't be a problem.
I don't think I'd run into this problem, personally, either since I have a Hybrid and the startup process doesn't have the same intermittent draw as gas vehicles have. The only reason I would get a harness with the TCH is because of the stinking high beam function. With the lights off, flick the high beams and the low beams come on with them. That takes a serious considerable toll on the bulbs, ballasts, and wiring over time.
I wonder if there's a way to disable the low beams from following the highs.
