5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I am highly looking into a Gen 6 Camry I think they're sick if I can hack it I'd go for a brand new 2011 se.... I want to accomplish a couple of things while owning the car....
1 would be a turbo setup(I read princess peachy's thread) seems the safe bet is 300whp?? and will an auto tranny be able to handle this?
2 I would like to know a good parts database for these cars? so I can check out different body kits etc. for the camry
I have done some google searching without much luck
I did see the coilovers I'd prolly end up with(Ksport)
I hope to get my car next month but I would like to start laying out a plan for my mods
1. The six bangers are just as fast if spend $5,000 for a turbo for the I4. its not worth it. I've been talking to a company and to spend that kind of money I should have just went with a 6.
2. I don't think the SE body needs to be changed. I like the aggressive stance and look.
3. I put TRD springs on my car and love them.
As for the Camry, there are a lot of owners out there. TN members are just trying to make there car their own to make that separation and modding is "addicting"
SHOULD GET A CAMRY AND JOIN THE FAMILY LOL

Getting on here and asking those questions won't get you anywhere, especially a parts database.
Ksport are alright and turbo is a bitch and will ruin your reliability, not for an everyday driver.
Imagine what we did when we started modding the Camry when it first came out and there was no database. Do some looking around and take some chances. How do you think we found out what wheels and tire combos fit and what don't?
Thanks for the responses gentlemen, and Redline as I mentioned I didn't find anything for the camry as far as visual mods go, yet I've seen modded bumpers and roof spoilers etc. on the cars. Sorry to have asked for a parts database LOL
The Camry is a 'family sedan'. The reason you can't find catalogs of performance parts, is, well, it is a 'family sedan.' If you want the car, be aware up front that the I4 model is underpowered. The V6 is almost too much using drive by wire. If you want the car, you can swap out cosmetic items but performance is what it is unless you have tons of cash to spend, and since you don't (you said so), decide up front if you can handle it.

I don't agree with the fact that the 4 cyl. is underpowered....it easily keeps up with slightly older V6 models, i.e. 2000-2006. The 4 cyl. is very peppy, especially so if you end up with the manual transmission......
But yes, any sort of parts are going to be nearly impossible to find, and if you do, very expensive. A lot of members on here resort to making their own (like intakes), or try things that aren't proven to work. But we're all in it together, so any ideas you have in the future, run it by, someone may have done it before

you guys are right looks like I'll go for rims and drop, and intake/exhaust....stock body is beautiful anyway just needs better rims and to sit a little lower

+1 and my 4cylinder is the 2.4L engine. There are plenty of cars faster and slower than my car be it automatic or manual. The engine is perfect adequate; while I do not have the sales figures, I'm willing to bet that the I4 outsells the V6 by a long shot.
Keep in mind Camry is not a sports car by any despite visual enhancements on the SE. Macpherson struts at all 4 corners in a sports car is laughable.

Not a sports car but, maybe a sports sedan? I will concede that double wishbones are inherantly a more stable, responsive suspension platform than Mcpherson struts, but, the MacPherson strut setup is still used on high performance cars such as the Porsche 911, all current BMWs (including the new Mini) the Alfa Romeo Mito and 2010 Giulietta, and several Mercedes-Benz models. Struts CAN "tuned" (camber adjustable) and combined with the right tire and wheel combination turn in very impressive handling results. In the right hands, I would put my money on a stock SE to out perform Detroits best in the hands of a wannabe.
The reason more I4's are on the road is becaus 80% of Camry's that have been produced are an I4. V6's are not nearly as common. Trust me, man just go for a V6 and spend the extra money with it fully loaded and take your time and do your mods up right. I know a few people who've gone from an I4 to a V6 and Bill on TN has done so due to an accident with his LE I4 to now a V6 and the results are all positive. Peppy or not, I love the Camry don't get me wrong but I'd personally never buy a 4cyl if the option of a 6 is there. You'll know what I mean when you step on it. HP is nearly double.
^There are some of us that basically require a manual. There is no V6 manual option. And just so y'all know.....my I4 2011 Camry SE keeps up with my husband's 2000 V6 5 speed Maxima.....that has 222 hp and 222 ft. lbs. of torque.
It's up to you.
