5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
so I recently got an auto dim mirror whit compass from a 08 camry hybrid and I plan on installing it on my 09 camry I saw the DIY section and saw that you can do it relatively easy by tapping in the console harness but my question is
Is there a way to get the compass option to work? is there another part I need to buy to make it all work? and yes I did search and didn't find anything.
huh? if its an auto dimming mirror with a compass, then you don't need to do anything else than power it. once you power it, both functions should work.
that's if you bought the right type that is... some mirrors have a separate compass module.

If you have the moonroof option you have a connection already there to plug n play. If you pull down the center console in the roof you will notice on the drivers side inside the headliner some blue tape with a white connection in there not doing anything. That is the mirror compass connection for the ones that get the option, if it dont have the option it just stays taped up. If it's not there check the front side by the drivers side visor.

Yes mine has the moonroof I will take the console out in a few minutes and check if my car is wired for it. BTW these is the mirror I got
one last question. How do you remove the top console? do I have to pull on it or does it have screws that I have to take out first? Thanks again my friend
I find the auto dim not dim enough, especially with those idiots HUV having it's high beam behind you.
The good old flip mirror is more dim. And the compass, does anyone use that? I find it useless. Roads are not like hiking trails. It turns and you have no choice but to turn with it.

I know especially people like me that have HID in the low beams and fogs
and yes I know the old flip mirrors are better and you never use the compass anyways but its a nice feature to have and for only $30 bucks that the mirror cost me Why not
i was looking into doing the same thing. where did you get the mirror from?
I know that you can find them on eBay but seldom cheap, but you may check the salvage yards as the rearview mirror is something that they will part with for next to nothing. This mirror is used in several different Toyota models. So there should be an abundance of them out there for little cash.
