5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hey guys I'm new here. I own a 2002 Camry XLE V6, Auto trans with 135,000 miles. I recently have this weird problem and I've been searching all over the net to find a correct solution. My check engine light came on so I used my scanner, pulled the code and erased the code to see if it will come back. Sure enough, a minute later it came back so it's not a fluke in the system. Along with the check engine light, my VSC and TRAC OFF light came on. Correct me if I'm wrong, but when those two lights are lit, it means the car needs immediate attention.
So according to Toyota OBD-II codes, P1155 is Air/Fuel Sensor Heater Circuit. (Bank 1 Sensor 2). In my understanding this sensor is the one after the catalytic converter.
But...while searching on toyotanation, there was a posting that says P1155 is definitely the Bank 1 Sensor 1. Which is the one by the firewall.
And....while searching the net, there was a post about a 2001 highlander V6 that has the same code but they say that it was bank 2 Sensor 1. Which is the one in front.
So I'm lose and in need of come clarification. I just want to order and replace the correct sensor. Also, will fixing the sensor erase the VSC and TRAC OFF light or do I need to take it to the dealership to do a
zero point calibration?
EDIT.....
Just a little more info. Gas cap is on tight, no overfilling gas tank, and there is no codes for the VSC and TRAC OFF light.

Bank 1 Sensor 2 is after the Cat. Bank one on your car is against the firewall. The VSC and the TRAC Off light are being caused by the engine light. The ECM will not allow these systems to function if the Engine is not running properly.

Ok so I looked at Rockauto to order the part and I'm a little confuse. I am planning to replace it with the Denso sensor but which one is for Bank 1 Sensor 2? They got so many to choose from and I want to make sure it's the correct one. Does it really matter??

You do not waht to go with rockauto's parts. This is not spark plugs that you can save a dollar or two. Go with OEM! Any online auto parts site is good but rockauto. Look for Denso. They used to be OEM supplier for toyota.
Good luck,
Sam

Rockauto has the Denso part. I just don't know which one to get.
Unless there is something wrong with the parts from Rockauto.
This is a confusing topic. I too have the P1155 code but I usually get sensors from www.oxygensensors.com. Unfortunately that site lists 2 different types of post-cat sensors.
Just to put it out there, that site only lists 1 Denso sensor for the rear so I'm pretty sure that I will end up buying that one.

Yes, it's pretty confusing. From my understanding correct me if I'm wrong, Bank 1 sensor 2 is after the cat which is the downstream sensor. I am waiting for the weather to warm up and stop raining so I can see if there's a part number on the sensor. If you get your car fixed before hand, let me know if it solve your problem.
Ok so here is a little more info in case someone has the same problem.
I went to the Toyota Dealer today to order my part. The service guy pointed out which one was bank 1 sensor 2. If you jack up the car, it will be the only sensor that is under the car. On the V6 model, the cat is attached to the exhaust manifold. If you follow down the manifold closest to the fire wall, you will see the cat and down to the exhaust pipes. The exhaust pipe will have a U shape bend and there it is, the sensor. You will need to spray PB blaster or WD-40 and start the car for like a minute. This will help with the removal. Also, it's best to get a O2 sensor socket. Will make the job a lot easier. Cost $7 at harbor freights.
I didn't get my part from Toyota because it cost $177 with tax. So the service guy gave me the part number to check online for a better deal.
I end up buying it from Toyota Parts Zone which was $140 after shipping.
Exact same part and part number on the sensor that I pulled off from the car.

Hope this help.
That's strange because I see more and more threads on here where people are replacing the Bank 2 sensor 1 (between the radiator and the engine) to fix this. 2001 Highlander V6 P1155 MIL code
I don't know but I am referring to Toyota OBII codes. I did see the post about the highlander too but according to the code, it's bank 1 sensor 2.
I'm going to replace the part that I order and if it dosen't fix it, it's one less sensor I will have to replace along down the road.

I already ordered the part mentioned in the Highlander thread for Band 2 sensor 1. It will be here on Thursday so by Friday I'll have an answer as to whether it worked or not.
If the light comes back on I might just put the old one back and replace Bank 1 sensor 1. If that doesn't work then I'll go with what you did. I'll post my findings.
Well my part should arrive Thursday also. After the install and drive around, I will also post up my results. If not, then I will order the sensor in front.
By the way, is your car V6?? I think the 4 cylinder has a different location(I think).

2002 XLE V6.
I guess this thread will serve as a more definitive answer as to which sensor it is.
PS: I checked under the car briefly for the after-cat sensor and I swear I couldn't find it. I even have the manual in PDF form and the diagram didn't show one. It might be further back than what I checked though.
