Wanted: Someone to make me retrofitted HID headlights for 2007 Camry
Wanted: Someone to make me retrofitted HID headlights for 2007 Camry
Hi ladies and gents, I have kept my Camry longer than I thought I would so I figured that I would finally tackle the one issue which has always bugged me a bit - conversion HID headlights.
I know there are several TN members who are skilled enough to perform a REAL retrofit HID solution into a pair of new headlights.
I HAVE done some reading on the subject so I am aware that there are various options like TSX projectors, etc. I'm not looking for the highest end solution but something which is reasonably-priced and provides a proper cutoff.
Please get back to me with a quotation for the total parts cost (including new headlights), your labor and shipping to Toronto, Canada.

I was one of the first Gen6 owners to do a HID conversion with the squirrel spotter fix.
My cut off is fine but I know that the stock lens doesn't create the kind of output and light pattern as a lens made for a HID install.
Thus I wanted to see how feasible a retrofit would be. I'm fine taking apart my bumper and installing new headlights but I don't want to do the actual retrofit stuff myself. Too much detail and knowledge involved - I'd rather pay someone else.

Yup, too much knowledge and skill involved in doing a retrofit. You need to have a few desired setups in mind, and then ask some retrofiters about the price.
There is a place in Scarborough that does Retrofits.... I forget the name i might have the website. I do some searching i know a member here had his Corolla done by them.
took like all day for some odd reason. but managed to put the hid's in the fog lights. i guess my right one is loose. it keeps going out. gotta check tommorrow and secure it or something or just use another ballast. but i do like what i see when they're on i notice the coverage area is much better.
i have a question also. Why do the HID fog lights need ballasts? if HID's are 55W to begin with and the Fog lights output at 55. so why ddo we need ballasts that cause it to output at 35? sorry if i'm misimformed.
HID works differently from halogen. HID needs an intial ~22kV to ignite the bulb, while halogen does not. The ballast plays a role as a transformer to convert its input 12V to 22kV and then settles down.

So I contacted that Lightwerks place and the quote is way too high.
They quoted me $500 in labor, $485 for the TSX projectors, lenses, bulbs, ballasts, etc, plus about $300 for a new headlight pair, plus $40 in shipping.
The total is $1325.
This is quite amusing you see. I will finish paying off my Camry in about 10 months at which point, given my mileage, it will be worth $6000-7000 only. I can't really justify spending 20% of the car's cost in new headlights.
I was thinking this would be like $700.

The place in Scarborough quoted me 500 or 575 but i cannot for the life of me remember the name!! Or the member that had them done there on his Corolla!
1) You can do retrofit by yourself, using MDX or Solara projectors bc there are no modification, cutting, or creating custom mounting like any other projectors. These projectors will get right in the holes. You just need to open up the headlights and replace the projectors.
2) Post a WTB here or ask on HIDP to buy the whole retrofit headlights.
