Gen5 What should I try next?

2005 Gen 5.5 with 119K miles was having steering wheel rattle and vibration at speeds over 60 miles per hour. at high speed my wheel begins to shake, rattle, and vibrate, also my engine seems to sound like a lawn mower at high speeds, like a two stroke engine. So I bought 4 new tires, did new tire balance, did wheel alignment, changed spark plugs, and even did EFI service. But, i still have the same problems.

What should I do next? change the serpentine belt? when i start the car i sense a brief vibration at the right front side, like a mild shake, then the car starts naturally with no problems. the starter is good.

i think something may be loose but cannot seem to find it. the dang wheel soulds like something is loose in there at high speeds, at low and normal speeds the car rides brand new. you cannot even hear the engine at all. you would think the car was off. but again at high speed 60 + then these two issues show themselves.

any feedback is appreciated. i just spent 700 dollars on the above fixes and i know the timing belt will cost me a lot too.

Was thinking with the mileage, we're about the same. And my front strut mount broke in the fall. I had the front mounts and struts replaced.

Backs are about shot now too on mine.

Gen5

yes brother, you know i just spent 700 dollars on the four new tires, balance tires, wheel alignment, change spark plugs, and fuel injection system service at the stealership. i had no choice but to go there because i had to make a long trip next day and no other shop near by. anyway, that problem is still there: my stearing wheel rattles at speeds over 60mph, and the engine slow down and growls, vibrates, and seems like a stow stroke lawn mower the minute i try to do 65 or 70mph. my friend says to change the serpentine belt or timing belt. 2005 camry only has the serpentine belt. but if pay more money to change that and the problem is still not fixed , dang, i am going broke fast. i will check as you mentioned the mounts, strut, and motor, or maybe some bearings? or could it be a chamber problem?

Well it is an I4 so it doesn't have a timing belt, it has a chain.. which will last the life of the car. But as the user above said, check the waterpump as well.

It could be bearings, are your wells stock or aftermarket? If aftermarket are they hubcentric? If not that can cause a vibration.

What about front end alignment or 4 wheel alignment.

Gen5 GEN 5.5 Back to normal again

thanks guys for the advice given. the problem was the passenger side wheel bearings. had them replaced and fixed. the car rides brand new again. i mean when you adjust the valves, replace spark plugs, clean the EFI, change the oil, and air filter, and pcv, and replace the serpentine belt, dang, the car rides like a caddilac. i changed the tires too.

as these camrys get over 100K, maintenance is the key to success and long life like 250K and 300K miles. i will get another 5 years from this b#tch.

but my back end needs help. i hear some clunking sounds, i think the problem may be the rear sway bar bushings.

Would have been better to post this in the thread where you posted the original problem.

Also, thanks for saying what the problem was, I'm gonna go have my wheel bearings looked at now because I have the same problem, except it only happens at 80 mph

Gen5

yeah, i thought it was the mounts, or chamber problem, even rack and pinion issue, so when you feel your car vibrate, rattles, sounds like a lawn mower, or two stroke engine, change your front wheel bearings and the car will be good as new again. lol. this was a no brainer, but dang, it had me going nuts. you know when i wrote this i did think to post it on the other forum. you do have a valid point. thanks.
