2007 Camry A/C won't cool

I just noticed the a/c on my 2007 V6 LE won't cool. The light on the dash comes on but there is no sign of compressor activity. The relay seems to work when tested on the bench but there doesn't seem to be power heading to the relay from the controls. Also, when I bypass the relay, the compressor clicks but doesn't sound like it is starting. I'm thinking possible freon leak or possibly seized compressor. All of which sounds pricey for a 4 yr old car from Toyota. Anybody have experience with this? Thanks.

You should be able to see the compressor clutch driven portion begin to rotate when the AC is engaged. Reach down and see if the outboard portion of the clutch will turn.If your R -134 is gone, the high/low pressure switch will keep the compressor from engaging. On my 2004, that switch is in the liquid[high side] line on the passenger side of the condenser. A set of gauges will tell you if the refrigerant level is OK. The Hondas I've owned also had a high temperature sensor in a well on the compressor that drops the compressor out if it gets too hot. Regards.

i dont think you will be able to see the compressor/clutch kick in as it is an internal clutch assembly iirc. hopefully in your case its just low on freon or something simple, in my case (2007 i4), i had my whole AC replaced. Compressor, dryer, blah blah blah. I forgot how much they said it was to replace but it was a jaw dropper. Luckily, I had the 100,000 mile warranty and it was all covered, rental car included. Good Luck.

I guess I haven't looked at the later compressors Toyota is using. So are they still belt driven and use an electromagnet to engage and disengage the compressor? I'll have to take a look at one when I visit my Toyota dealer again. Thanks for the input. Regards.
