Soon to be 2011 Camry Se owner, have a few questions!

Sup guys. Ive been a lurker here for the past week or so. Currently my family has a 2009 V6 Venza AWD that we are trading in for a 2011 Camry SE. Its just too expensive, gas is too much (15.7 avg), etc. We are at a lost already, but we are happy with the deal we are getting. We are picking up a white SE 4cylinder between Wed-Fri whenever it comes in since they didnt have a white on the lot. At first the dealership woudnt find us a white, but I said I would take my business somewhere else that had a white on the lot, needless to say they got us a white one 5 minutes later.

I use to have a modded 08 Scion tC, loved that car but went to the Venza and loved the power. Hated the electric steering but its a very fine, smooth car. I have a few minor questions though regarding the SE.

-Leather steering wheel. The venza had a "leather" steering wheel too, but it honestly felt like a piece of crap. Wheel was very thin, and it just felt too much like plastic, not leather. I test drove the SE, but was distracted with talking to my mom and the salesperson to really get a feel of it. How is the steering wheel of the SE? The SE were are getting doesnt have leather seats, but apparently has a leather steering wheel. How is it compared to the venza if any of you have been in one? I loved the tC steering wheel. May not seem like a big deal, but it is to me.

-Hows the drive compared to a gen 1 tC or venza if anyones been in both or all 3? No stupid electric steering right? Im not picky on driving, I have fun driving my friends 09 Corolla LE.

-Whats your avg mpg? I have a heavy foot off a green light, but im not much of a speeder anymore. I would do alot of city driving.

-Could I possibly get more of a discount (final papers arent signed yet) if I bring up the fact a new Camry may come out?

Thanks guys.

Oops, forgot to mention, does anyone have any pics of a white 2010 Camry that is tinted and/or has black rims? Im not planning to modify the car, probably just tints and maybe HID's.

I like the steering wheel on my SE, and the steering isn't electric like the Venza so you might like that better. The ride in the SE is compairable to the Tc but the fuel economy will lack in comparison be it that is a larger car than the Tc. Mpg's will be better than the Venza though.

^ Nice.

White is def my favorite color for this car. 17% tint all around would be too dark for NYC. I had 20% on my tC before and got pulled over numerous times.

Hows your steering wheel leather? Does it feel like real leather, or a bit plastic feeling?

My SE wheel is and feels like leather but still on the thin side IMO. I bought a high quality slip on leather cover that has some texture to it. Much better for me.

Our tint laws suck in NY. The latest law states that the glass must permit 70% light through all the glass on the car, sides and rear included. That my friend is the stock tint. Technically any additional tint in NY is illegal and a cause to be stopped and ticketed. Keep it light and the cops shouldn't hassle you, but they can.

The windows are slightly tinted from the factory. You might as well not put any tint because it would be a waste of money if you're going to keep it that light. Tint law sucks but at least the cops are not hard-a$$es.

I have 30% on mine as well as my sisters Matrix. No problems. I know a bunch of people with 20% and no problems. Tint shops will tint whatever % you want.

Its not how dark or light its a matter of if the cops can see inside. Night time is worse as the tints are darker than they are but if during the day light and your tint is 10% or less, expect to be pulled over. Even at 20%, you can still see inside the car.

As long as the front driver and passenger windows arent tinted, you should be fine. Technically cops can pull you over if you have your back driver-side/pass.-side windows but 95% of the time they wont.

I'll probably settle for 35% on the back windows and rear w/s.

Is there a list on this site that has a "10 Modifications for $20 or less" type of topic? In Scionlife, they have a 50 Mods for under $50 topic. Really cool stuff.

I just traded my '06 tC lowered on trd springs in for a '11 SE. The ride isnt as firm as the tc was, but still firm none the less. VERY comfortable. After driving a little, you will kindof get the feel like your driving a tc again, atleast I felt that way. I cant give and thoughts as far as mileage goes. In my tc I was able to get 23-24 around town, and 32-35 on the hwy. I hope to get better in the Camry with the 6-speed auto and keeping my size 14 shoe tame.

The steering wheel, personally is awesome. I love it. steering wise it is very smooth and responsive. Larger sidewall than the tc so there is a little more "slosh" so to speak, but it feels great.

If you're not going to put tint on the front driver/passenger windows, might as well not do it. Its a waste of money.

Either you put tint on all 5 windows or don't put at all. If you're scared of getting pulled over, don't tint at all. All or nothing!

As I stated, cops in NYC are not strict on tints. Put it on all 5 windows and be done with it. Don't be an ass in your driving habit or you'll stick out like a sore-thumb and you're surely be pulled over. I've driven by, along side, behind, in front and stopped next to cops and nothing.

- if the steering wheel is like my '07 SE than it feels alright, I'd say similar to the tC. I think tC feel more of the road than the SE. tC have so little room that I always feel like hugging the steering wheel. SE have more room. Since U didn't notice any different under distraction, it seem U had no issue with the Steering wheel.

- U already test drove the SE, u should know or go test drive again before U buy. IMHO I think the SE is 10x the tC, comfort and all.

- V6 is for highway, I4 is for city. U won't benefit anything in the city driving a V6. IMO the full power of the V6 unleash at over 80mph.

- get a friend that is good with this table game.

I agree, do them all or not at all. This is the first car I haven't tinted since 1985. I never had a problem with a town/city cop, its the damn State Troopers up here in Orange County. I was stopped on the the Thruway for chrissakes for nothing but tint, not even speeding. He measured my tint with a light meter. That was with 35% tint on my 03 Crown Vic Sport. The Trooper let me go with a warning, but at my age I just don't need the hassle so I didn't tint my SE. You would think they have better things to do than hassle a 51 yr old over tint. And yes, you could definitely see inside the car.

I had 20% on my tC, took the front window tint off eventually for getting pulled over too much. I still think tinting theback windows and rear w/s is a fine idea. Keeps the car cooler, and does make it look better. The no tint in the front/tint in the back window look doesnt bother me.
