smart key need help

I'm going on a road trip for 2 to 3 weeks and I may be sleeping in the car most nights. Its a 07 camry with a smart key. The key drains the battery if left in the car. What options do I have to prevent this from happening? thanks.

How does the key drain the battery if left in the car? Just climb in, and lock the car with your key fob, end of story. I haven't heard of the key draining the battery before.

When the key is within a short range of the car they link up electronical or something like that. This winter I left my keys in the car for about 2 weeks. The cold kept the car from starting but i was also told leaving the key inside also drained the car battery. The battery was fairly new but I had to replace it. So your saying I don't have to worry about the car battery or key battery? What is "fob" mean? Thank you for the quick response.

Key fob...meaning.....the plastic case that has the buttons for lock, unlock, trunk, etc.

I honestly have never heard of an issue of a key fob draining the battery, that seems weird to me, and I work at a Toyota dealership.

My Smart Key has been out of my car for less than 10 hours since mid December and has not drained the battery.

I suspect you have been provided with some questionable facts here.

If you're really concerned about it, just take the battery out of the key when you go to sleep.

Or just put a spare 1632 battery in the glove compartment just in case.

Why the battery will drain in the car? Smart key only works when you press the induction button of the door handle or push start button. If you stay in your camry, there will be no way to drain your battery of the Smartkey.

I don't understand why you leave the key in your car when you don't use your car.
