Gen 5 (maybe gen 6) Clutch replacement?

For those who have a manual gen 5 or maybe gen 6(not sure if the 5 speed is the same in both), I was curious to know how its holding up, or if you've replaced it... mine has about 170k and still doesn't shudder at all, and still holds good--im just looking ahead for when it finally does let go..

I've been searching and I think its the same part as the clutch in a Scion Tc (2005), which would greatly increase the choices. Clutchmasters, ACT, Exedy to name a few...

I'm not sure what brand to go with, or just bite the bullet and get a TRD clutch for like $550

any thoughts?

Finding a manual transmission in a newer Camry is extremely hard to do. I only know of a handful of members here who have stick shift Gen 5/Gen 6 Camrys, myself included.

I myself am waiting for a TRD clutch, or something similar to be developed for my own car, and at 5200 miles, it doesn't need to be replaced.

I don't know 100% that the tC clutch will work, but I'm going to hazard an educated guess and say it will work. At least, I'm hoping so, because I'm counting on it I don't see why it wouldn't.

^^ i know for sure mine is the same as the 05-06... im sure they would do the same for your 6-speed... it'll definitely have the same clutch as the TC, just gotta wait for it!

its cool too cuz there are endless options for mine, but which one will feel like mine does now and hold 500hp? haha

PM rhythmnsmoke. I know he does a lot of racing with his Gen 1 tC, and his setup has well over 300 hp/300 ft. lbs. of torque. He may be able to point you in the right direction.

I pddont post on here a lot, I mostly lurk but I have a 2008 5spd SE. At 90k now because of my irresponsible Toyota certified dealer, I need a new clutch. The worst part is that they are trying to make me pay for killing my clutch. More details to come.

90k isn't horrible for a new clutch. Sure, many cars go 150k or 200k on the original clutch but many are hobbled along waaaaay past needing replacement.

90k is still early. the car only has 150tq. I could literally dump mine at 4k, spin the hell out of it in 1st, kiiiinda chirp second and although it WOULD get a bit softer after beating on it a few times, it still worked just fine with 190k miles. When it was cold, yes, it would shudder if you weren't easy on it -- something a newer clutch shouldn't do. Once it was warm though, I could ride it/dump it with no signs of it having that many miles. I could also go from 2nd to 1st gear(auto-x style) at over 20mph no problem -- heel-toeing in that car was SOOO easy and it had no problem downshifting at high rpm.
I liked my camry's clutch with 150k better than my 08 Civic Si with only 30k on it.

but you're right, I've felt clutches that are completely wasted and these people keep on truckin.. case in point my old pathfiner lol, truck pulled a big boat its entire life and sometimes I'd wonder if it was going to engage

Exactly, and theyre refusing to take responsibility. Do you guys have a special section to post about dealers? They've offered me to take half off the job but thats still $1200 out of pocket for me for them burning my clutch. They're insane, im so pissed off right now. Toyota NA was no help at all too they just contacted the customer manager at the dealership and it got nowhere past the offer of 50/50.
