Can someone with a Quad HID setup answer this

If you hooked up a HID kit to the high-beam connector in a 2007-2009 camry, will the HID bulb turn on and off any differently than the stock halogen, depending on what light mode you are in?

Basically, is there any point in time when you could technically have 2 low-beam lights on in each headlight at the same time under normal circumstances with a quad setup? I know the stock Halogen bulb in the high beam housing is never on when the low beams are on (unless you hit the highbeam), but I just want to confirm with someone here if possible.

For example, here's how I've observed my headlights working in each mode, both day and night, (diagrams are of both headlights, T is for turn signals, L is for low-beam, HP is for high-beam/park, - is for off):

Daytime

Auto Mode:

- - HP HP - -

Parking Mode:

T - HP HP - T

Headlight Mode:

T L - - L T

Night time

Auto Mode:

T L - - L T

Parking Mode:

T - HP HP - T

Headlight Mode:

T L - - L T

Thanks!

HID in high beam is a no-no. The only quad setup I've seen is retrofitted where the hi-beam has bi-xenon (acts as low beam and highbeam)

Also, just so you know...by law, you can have at most 4 headlights on (headlights and fogs or headlight and highbeam (all depends on how the car is designed)

The high beams will be bixenon HID's, so there will still be high beam function. The projectors in the original location will be used as auxiliary HID's for backroads, whereas the high beam position projector will be used for daily low and high.

Thanks for the responses... I'm aware of all laws, this is a question solely about functionality.

... And the setup is as Iovaykind explained

Still looking for the answer if anyone's tried it.

"2 low-beam lights on in each headlight at the same time under normal circumstances with a quad setup?"

what do you mean?

It seems you replace regular LB with HID and HB with HID too, right? And you are asking if without turning on the high beam and the HID in the high beam still turn on?

It is a quad setup, and there will be solenoids moving when high beam is activated to allow a complete light.

Could you explain more about your normal circumstance?

This is the way I see it:

1) If you don't want your DRL:
- Disable your DRL. Turn AUTO mode off.
- Retrofit and install 2 ballasts and bixenon projectors for each headlight.
- Use a relay harness for bixenon.

2) If you want your DRL:
- You can install halo or another light bulb to your headlights and power by a relay when the voltage is within a certain range.
- Retrofit bixenon projectors as above.

I think the complicated thing is only the use of relay harnesses. Do you like the reduced voltage (or PWM) of DRL or do you want full brightness of the high beam? I know many people want to make their DRL more glare so that they are more visible. It is okie because DRL is used during the day.

sorry my initial post was confusing, by 2 low beams on at the same time i meant while the low beams are on, would there be any voltage coming out of the high beam wires to activate the HID harness for the Bixenon

... i basically answered my own question in the post because the drl turns off when the low beam comes on, i just wasn't sure if there's even a little voltage coming out that could activate the HID harness.

I think disabling the drl is the best idea and I'll be using two relay harnesses, one for the bi-xenon and the other for the secondary low-beam.

To activate the HID harness for the bixenon, you only need the low beam to have power. There will be no power in the high beam wire while the low beam is on unless you turn your high beam/flashing manually. You can only use 1 low beam as a trigger for the harness to draw power to 4 of your ballasts.

I hope this helps.

Thanks to HID Planet I have a resolution that allows me to keep DRLs.

I'm going to have my LEDs and Halos running on DRL (with a relay harness so their not dimmed by the lower voltage) and the Bi-xenon running on a relay harness from the low beam.

The SPDT relay will allow me to separate the DRL from the high beam so I can power my Solenoids for the Bi-Xenons without having to worry about them activated during the day by DRL.

The figure below doesn't show the ballasts connected to the HID harness.

Here's the final diagram, this includes the harness for the LEDs.
