Oversize wheels on 2005 Camry

I purchased a used 2005 Camry last year. I noticed that it had 17-inch wheels instead of the normal 16-inch wheels. My mechanic mentioned that they were Lexus wheels. I didn't think much more about it until this week, when I wondered what size the spare tire wheel was. The spare is a 16-inch wheel ..... great!

So my first question is, if I have a flat and mount the smaller wheel, does this screw anything up?

I'm planning to buy a new set of tires. The tires on the car are 17-inch Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tires, a sporty, low-profile tire, and they're wearing out. Now I have to decide whether to go back to 16-inch wheels and tires and keep the spare, a Bridgestone Turanza, or stay with the 17-inch wheels and tires and get a 17-inch spare. I am intending to get normal profile tires this time.

So my second question is, should I go back to 16-inch wheels or stay with 17-inch Lexus wheels with standard profile tires?

I appreciate your comments.

keep the 17's... it won't hurt to ride home on the 16 if you get a flat, so just keep it.. but those turanza's are garbage...

i'd suggest a 225-50-17, no need to spend any more than $100 a tire

You can keep your 17's and still use the 16" spare, the overall diameter is probably the same.

I have 19" rims and i had a blow out and i put my 16" spare on and it was fine.. Just make sure you put the spare on the back and put another 17" on the front (if your front blows out) to keep the actual drive wheels the same.
