5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
The 2010 Camry headrests suck, and you can't you drive with the windows open.
I've got a 2010 Camry I bought new and I can't stand the headrests. Does anybody know if they make a set of aftermarket headrests that don't push your head forward so much?
Another complaint I have is that when you open the windows, the air buffets inside the car when you're driving and if you drive at a good clip, it gets very bad. Why couldn't they design the car so when you open the windows and drive, there is very little wind blowing inside?
Anyway, I'm considering buying an air deflector for the driver side window. Has anybody bought on of these and if so, did they stop the blustering winds blowing inside the car as your driving?
im not sure what you can do about the headrests. you can try ebay motors but they might just have OEM products.
as for the window problem, well im they type that always drives with the windows down. in fact, save your money and try rolling the rear windows down halfway. it always works for me.

You want the air to circulate, which will help stop the buffeting. Crack the rear windows a tiny bit.
i've tried every different combo of window positions and none have worked. You are right though, if you crack open the rear windows, it reduces the buffeting.
All cars will have wind noise when windows are rolled down. Even with a window visor, you'll have some wind noise but not a lot. Thats just how it is when you're driving and wind is entering into the car. At least with the window visors, you can crack the window open when its raining.
You want to hear some real noise? Try driving a 1st gen Honda Pilot with one of the front windows wide open, sounds like you have a helicopter inside the cabin with you. Once you crack open a little bit of the rear window, it's gone. As for the "headrests" I think they're used more as a head restraint instead. If you get into an accident, you'll have less chance for whiplash.

A "workaround" for those head rests are to lean your seat back more! haha
Window visors do help a tad, but cheaper ones end up whistling, from past experience.

Some people, since they hate the headrests so much, actually turn them around. Most dealerships are against this idea since doing so will no longer protect your head and neck from whiplash in an accident.

It's not the wind noise that bothers me, it's the buffeting. At certain speeds, it sounds like a whop whop whop and you can feel the pressure changing in the car.
What spoiled me was getting an oppertunity to drive a dodge challenger for 3 days (it wasn't the model with the Hemi). My wife had to get some paint work on her car and so my insurance had a rental car option that I took advantage of. When I went to the rental car plaice, they only had two cars available, a challenger and a jeep. I took the challenger. Anyway, in the challenger, you can roll down the the driver side window (or both windows) and drive the car without being buffeted by wind and air pressure changes. I forgot how much I missed driving cars with the drivers window open after I started driving this car.

I didn't know you could do this. I may give it a try. Thanks.
Yeah, my fiance hates the headrest. Tried turning it around, and it leans too far back. She has an '05 SE and I took the one out of her car and put it on the passanger side for her and that seems to help some though it still leans forward some. Turning the '05 headrest around backwards makes it sit about straight with the seat, and that's where she settled for now.
