5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
So. I just went to my local auto shop, hoping to pick myself up one of the K&N kits before Friday (Toyota meet in my city!) only to find it was priced at:
$569.
Promptly burst out laughing and walked out of the shop. Logged onto eBay:
$298.
Freakin crazy how expensive shit is to buy retail here! So this leaves me with a dilemma:
Alpine H/U for about $400 (already have my Metra Dash kit)
OR do I buy the K&N kit?

I 2nd the HU, the K&N cold air intake kits are an oxymoron. Your current OEM set up draws air from outside of the engine air compartment if you look carefully while the kit draws air from within the engine compartment.

Yeah I was kind of leaning that way myself. Already have half the things i need for the HU (Dash kit, wheel controls, Alpine Imprint Kit) kind of seems a waste to make it wait over the 'cold' air kit.

I have the K&N filter in my Camry. The only reason I got it is so I don't have to constantly buy a new air filter. I'll just occasionally pop it out and clean it once in awhile.

yea i figured that's the best way. since it's reusable washable. instead of constantly buying another filter.
1) I like a little sound when I put my foot in it, and
2) audio is not a "huge" priority to me.
Also- the Typhoon keeps the fresh-air snorkel that feeds from the front of the car.
Heat-soak is inevitable sitting at a light or in traffic, but once underway it's a non-issue. The exact same thing would happen with a "true" CAI such as a Fujita.
I bought mine used from another member here for $175. From what I saw, anything more than $250 new is ridiculous, you should come in for less even with shipping.
Still... "your money, your car..." I'm only giving one guy's opinion.
