Like the title says we are looking at purchasing a new 11 Camry LE with the QA and EX packages.
One question I had is with the pedal recall and floor mats. I' assuming that Toyota created a better pedal from what I saw on youtube which shows that they just cut out a chunk of the pedal? Also these new mats that were replaced, do they still have a rubber underlining? Has anyone tried removing the carpet from the hooks and sliding it to see if it makes contact with the pedal?
I have huge concerns about this because we have owned Hondas for the better part of 10 years and while the floor mats were all over the place, they never once made contact with the floor mats. There are QA issues (door regulators that are breaking at 30k miles, and very firm seats) as well as size that are the reason we are looking at alternatives.
Any help would be appreciated and if anyone knows if the 0% APR and 1000 cash will be extended, this will give us more time to not jump and make a quick decision.

You're worrying way too much about a problem that never existed in the first place.
If the mats are hooked, they can't move.
The ES350 in the crash had a set of mats on top of existing mats.
Toyota did the the pedal trim and new mat thing to ease people's concerns like yours.
Agree with Joe B. I have the factory rubber mats on top of the carpeted mats
(not reccommended by Toyota). both mats are secured by the floor hooks and DO NOT move. IMO much ado about noth'in. If foor mats are a break or make issue, just take'em out alltogether.
We just got a new 2011 Camry on Saturday for our daughter. It came with the factory carpet mats but I put on some grooved rubber mats on top of them right away. I do not see how this can create problems. It is not too much different from other cars.
Thanks for the information. Does anyone know if the underlining is rubber? Honda went to some cheap synthetic underlining that seems like it will allow any liquid to penetrate through.

Please do not stack the floormats. I also own a 2011 Camry, and at one point had very, very thin floormats on top of the factory ones. I had numerous problems after having them in there only a week, luckily nothing scary, but all the same not a good feeling.
I strongly urge you to take the factory ones out from underneath the rubber mats. It would sadden me to hear a story in the future about a 2011 Camry that crashed because of stacked mats....

Yeah please do, I certainly don't want to see anybody get hurt for the sake of keeping the stock floor mats clean.
That's why I took mine out and replaced them with the Weather Tech floor liners. Whenever I decide to sell the car, then I'll throw the stock mats back in, still looking brand new.

I've never grasped this idea, why do people want to keep the stock mats clean and new for the people that may buy the car later down the road? Just curious, my thought are that when the new owner gets it they'll likely take them back out and put another set in there as well. In the end though I guess that once the car finally dies and goes to it final resting place it will still have new mats. Or do you just keep collecting them?

Just got word from our Regional Rep from Toyota that only Tundra and Camry will have incentives next month and the 0% or $1000 is officially going away. These are the national incentives, so it will be this way across the country.

I'm just OCD about it. Going to car shows, I want the OEM mats to look perfect. And I guess that mentality gets shifted to the DD as well.
I really have no use for the OEM mats. It's either snowing or raining here, so within a week they'd get trashed.
Gotcha. I used to be that way too, I just never understood why, it was an obsession of mine up to this car. I had mats that I collected it seemed from various cars that met their dimise in one form or another. One car a 93 paseo, rusted through, high mileage, beat up, but the mats were impeccable. I drew the line there, now I've got to get the wife on board with me. I created a monster.

Makes it a lot easier to sell if everything is clean. Most people wouldn't think twice about a car with trashed floormats, even if its just the mats. Forget the fact that they're replaceable. But then again that's just an added expense that most people deem unnecessary.
