5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Does anyone know if someone sells a basic tool kit for working in and around the new Camry's? I think the screws and such are metric.
I have accumulated alot of various size sockets and such over the years but always have trouble finding the correct ones for each car. I know you are thinking I should get organized.
I know a lot of dealers prefer that we do not work on the cars ourselves but sometime a kit like that would come in handy.
A kit? Go to Sears and buy a set of Craftsman sockets, 1/4 and 3/8 drive, metric, ratchets, end and box wrenches, screw drivers, deep well sockets for the spark plugs and wheel lugs, and likely a few other things, but that is a good start. A torque wrench is nice but likely not needed for anything you are likely to be doing--if you need a torque wrench, you are probably in too deep already.

lugs are 21mm...almost all the bolts on the camry are 10mm...but so are a lot of other cars...philips screwdriver...oil filter wrench optional...14mm drain plug...get yourself a nice jack (69 bucks from harbor freight)...
I have a basic Craftsman tool kit that ran me $120 (it's not the smallest you can get), because I have 3 different cars to work on, but there are smaller kits that will have all the sizes you need for the Camry that will run you less than $100. Well worth the price, IMO.

there is no such thing as "metric screws" they are either posi-drive or torx or phillips...
go to Napa, Auto Zone, Sears, Home Depot, Lowe's, even Harbor Freight..
if a sales person DOES NOT KNOW what a posi-drive, or torx screw driver is...??? walk away, walk far, far away.....find someone who knows......the auto parts stores are MORE knowledgeable than a Sears minimum wage flunky......
you would very rarely (if even) need a flat tip screw driver....but one or two would not hurt to have.
A simple metric socket set will suffice with an extension. Phillips head screwdriver as well. If you happen to have crossed some bolts upon reassembly 6 or 8mm taps are going to cover it. The other bolts are to major components. Pm me if you want individual specifics for the Camry.
