5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
So, I've had my 2010 SE V6 for quite a while now (a little over a year and I actually posted here back when I bought it, full of excitement, lol) and I'm curious as to if there are any performance tweaks I can do to it. I've noticed something about this car ever since I bought it new that I haven't quite been able to reconcile: Sometimes, it really gets up and goes in such a manner that it kind of surprises me. Other times (and mostly), it takes its sweet-ass time to run through first gear -- relatively speaking. Anyone else with this car noticed that? I only have 16K miles on it and I've taken it in for all its 5000 mile check-ups at the dealership.
Overall, I'm pretty damn ignorant when it comes to the finer details of cars, though I do lurk around places like here quite a lot to pick up information (which means, yes; I do a lot of utilizing the forum search). With that said, I'm just curious as to if there are some things I could either check out myself or mention the next time I go to the dealership to help get better performance out of it. Is there some kind of "performance test" or something a dealership can undergo with a car or is that a really, really, really stupid question? lol.
Lastly, just short of adding a K&N air intake, I haven't seen anyone do a whole heck of a lot under the hood of a 2010 SE V6. I've searched around here, Google, YouTube, etc. and it's pretty drab. Is there any particular reason for this? Again, forgive my ignorance, but I haven't been able to put my finger on any particular reason why people aren't doing much with these cars where boosting speed is concerned. Money issues, perhaps? Factory engine programming or part configurations? Just not possible for whatever reason at the moment? I'd love to do some reasonable under-the-hood adjustments/modifications to make my car faster off the line at a stop light. I don't care about top speed, but anything I can do to boost HP that's not a total waste, I'd love to look into.
Thanks for any insight, everyone. I certainly do appreciate it.
-Stephen

Exhaust, headers if you can find 'em, and short ram/cold air intake will help when combined.
The car learns how to accomodate to the driver's driving personality. If you're one who granny-foots the gas pedal all the time, and then all of a sudden jam the car, it'll be less responsive than if say you've been driving a few days like you're in nascar and your acceleration is a bit more hurried.
Not too many mods for our cars because it's simply a family sedan. Not too many will mod a camry. Now, if you look on ebay, you'll see headers, muffler, resonator all in one package for about 100 bucks for a civic. Why? A lot of people mod them, and the civic, though slow without major engine work, is relatively more responsive to bolt on mods.
Good luck!

Alright, knock it off.
Sure, a lot of cars here on TN are a lot of show, not so much go. The reason? The aftermarket support for the Camry, a family sedan, is little to NONE. Most members here have turned to each other for support and some have even MADE their own products. That's pretty impressive. And then you're forgetting some of the members who have even boosted their cars.
This isn't a Mustang thread, where if you don't have 400+ hp you're not cool. This is a Toyota thread, and any modifications, whether show or go, are always welcomed and appreciated on this site.

hate to break it to you there StephenChapman, but this place seems to be more about show than go, unfortunately.
no racers here, just ricers.
Hate to break it to you "knightslugger", but if you're looking for "GO". you don't buy a Toyota Camry (but you knew that). Also, the Camry has more domestic (U.S.) manufacturing content than the Ford F-150 and Chev. Silverado, that's not quite the definition of a "ricer"
Like everyone else said there are some parts for the Camry just not many. Most people here are more into the clean family sedan look more than power and performance. There are a few V6's that are turbo'd, but aside from them most just do intake and exhaust. However Monkey Wrench Racing did make headers for the V6 engine for people doing 2GR swaps into MR2's and Lotus Evora's, but as far as I know no one has tried it on the Camry. Honestly I think if someone did try them they would need to make a custom Y-pipe, but I haven't tried it so I don't know for sure.

I wasn't saying that the Evora needed a swap I was just stating why the headers were created. They created them for the 2GR swap into the MR2 swap "ONLY" and the Lotus Evora (which comes stock with the 2GR)

you can make anything go fast, even a family sedan. in this 3000# chassis, the 3.5L V6 is an absolute screamer. but you see more people putting wrong fitment tires on, super lip rims, rubber band tires and rimes, and a lowering job so much that you couldn't fit a tin of chew under the frame lip.
with all the stiffening components available for this chassis, it's amazing to me no one has autocrossed this platform here.
I agree that if you lower your car a lot, your car is for show only. It is not for daily driving or being able to go to a long trip. Even the terrains here won't allow lowered cars.

+1
I actually convinced my wife into trying to autocross hers so the next time I go autocrossing I'll take pics of her running the Camry . I also talked my coworker into it too. He seems pretty excited to see what it can do . He also has a V6 SE Gen6.
