2006 camry right side axle replacement help needed...

what size axle nut is on the gen 5 camry's? appears to be a 32mm 12 pt but want to be sure before i buy one because they're not easy to find in the stores. i already got a reman axle but its got the 6 pt 32mm nut that needs a retainer cap and cotter pin (but of course it didn't come with either) and my current one doesn't use one. do i need to return the axle and get one that doesn't need the cotter pin setup or just buy the nut retainer for the reman one? i didn't know if this would cause any other problems with meshing to the diff, wheel hub, etc, since it's probably from the gen 4 camry's because i seem to remember they used cotter pins.
also, please confirm its a 32, 33, or 34 mm 12 pt socket i need and also suggest a brick and mortar store where i can buy one if possible since i'd like to get it done today.
thanks much and i searched the manual and it doesn't say what size the axle nut is.

You no doubt figured out that the nut requires a 30mm 12-point socket. I had to order one online. Were you successful in getting your passenger-side axle replaced? I can't remove the old axle. I've beat on it with a slide hammer, but the bearing that is pressed into the frame has not budged. Did you have a trick that helped you remove the axle?

It's my wife's car, so I don't remember exactly -- about 110,000 to 120,000 miles. BTW, I had to unbolt the bracket that the bearing on the axle fits into. Then I could beat the bracket off the axle once I had it on the ground. It was still a PITA to unbolt the bracket, but it was doable. A 5 lb slide hammer never would have pulled that axle out.

This is a little off the subject but something I have found useful. When I get a new car, I always spray Eastwood Anti-Rust on areas where rust build up can be a problem in the future. I sprayed the axles where they fit into the hub and the transmission and also at the support bearing. I expect the disassembly of those components will be easier when the time comes. The aerosol Eastwood product sprays on thin and has the tendency to seep into small clearances. I also works good as an undercoat product. About as durable as undercoating but not where gravel strikes the underside of the body. Keep the product off of the ABS components. I also take the brake discs off and coat the hub/disc interface with a small amount of anti-seize. Never have a problem getting the discs off as the anti-seize is a very got rust inhibitor when burnished into the hub or disc.Regards

i had the exact same experience when i did the job on my wife's solara recently. passenger's side was a pain. beat on it, messed up a couple pry bars trying to pry it out and finally unbolted the bracket and got it off with a sledge once off the car. of course, now that i know how to do it i could do it again in 1/4 the time.

i also had to buy the socket online, can't find 12 point sockets anywhere at the local autoparts stores.

you remove a c-clip then unbolt the passenger side axle after that it should come out with no effort as there is no c clip holding it in the tranny

the axle nuts are 30mm 12 point..

If anyone has tips for removing the drivers side axle please post i cant get a grip with a pry bar

wear some mechanics gloves with good grip, grab hold of the tulip near the tranny, and yank. it'll pop right out, didn't take much for me. the c-clip is not that hard to overcome.
