PLEASE HELP! Can't install new front brake pads :(

There are 2 "v" shaped spings that insert into 2 holes at the bottom of each pad, connecting them together. Am I supposed to insert the spring into both new pads and squeeze the pads together and insert them as one unit into the caliper? If so, they are like 1 mm too wide. Please help!

Did you compress the caliper all the way? Put the pads in the pad guides first. Then slide the caliper on top and your done.

U dont understand. There are 2 "V" shaped springs that attach to 2 little holes on the bottom of each pad. They put outward tension on the pads, i.e. push the pads away from one another. How the heck are you supposed to reinstall the pads with the spring. It seems impossible!

nothing is impossible. almost.
if you left one bolt in caliper, flip caliper up, it should stay in this possition, if not- use velcro or somthing to hold it .
put both pads in place and hold them using one hand.
using other hand insert V-springs in place, one by one, keep holding pads.
lower caliper just enough to hold pads and take your hand away.
slide caliper all the way down and put second caliper bolt in place.

Thanks for the link with pics!!! The mistake I made was to remove the caliper AND its mounting bracket as 1 unit. This makes it impossible to insert the new pads with anti-rattle spring connecting them! Thanks so much

is the anti-rattle spring mandatory? i just recently changed my pads to cheap duralast ones but they don't come with the premade holes like the factory ones do.

just use some brake grease of anti-rattle liquid, which you can find at any auto parts store, smear it on the back side of the pads, just do not over do this either... a little goes a long way.

to the O/P...in that picture from the link, you will see where the mechanic uses a C-clamp to push back the piston into its bore.

it is possible that this reply is getting to you late, (and it did, i just checked the darned date) but if you have ABS brakes..??

DO NOT DO THAT...!!!

you MUST loosen the bleeder screw at the caliper, THEN push in the piston, like in the picture...YOU WILL MESS UP the ABS systems if you do this wrong..!!!

be sure to close off the bleeder screw, AND REFILL the master cylinder

This is pretty good tutorial, but it is an old car i think. but the principle is the same. http://www.freeautomechanic.com/brake-caliper.html

it's weird that he disconnects the hose from the caliber step 6. anyone know why he did that? is that necessary for our camry?
not trying to jack your thread but didn't want to clutter up the forums with another 1.

also step 10, is he just installing a new cliper? looks pretty damn new on step 11?
