5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I just got my hitch delivered to me yesterday, and there isn't much information out in cyberspace (let alone TN) about doing this, what's involved, how it's different than Inline 4 cylinders... so i'm going to be the [first?] to do something about that.
This is a GO modification, not a SHOW modification. and i'm very much into the GO !
i will update this entry (if i can, edit time limits pending) when i return from my CCS Road Racing this weekend. i'm a busy boy, and i have laps to do and people's dreams to crush.
The hitch frame brand is Hidden Hitch, purchased from eTrailers.com (Free Shipping!). Came with the hitch, instructions for installation (kind of unnecessary) all hardware, and a pin/hitch.
The installation was pretty straight forward, however i could not for the life of me get the exhaust hangers to come loose. i ended up unbolting the metal bracket that holds it to the body which really didn't help much as the angle of the bolt was clear, bu there was no way to get my hand up in there. i ended up getting at it from the exterior side.
I'll take some photos this afternoon (as i said i was going to in the first place, i totally forgot about this thread!), along with the trailer wire harness install.

The hitch looks great on your XLE. I have a 2011 SE. I just ordered and received my hidden hitch (also from etrailer.com which was all banged up with scratches?). As i installed it, i noticed the passenger side didn't have a bracket which was normal only the driver side had it but the passenger side did have the existing 3 ( only used 2) bolts holes unused. So good to go right, not really. The passenger side didn't have any weldnuts on the holes! So i couldn't thread the bolts. So i was a little confused so i called etrailer and they said the 2011 SE are supposed to have weldnuts on both sides! I guess there going to call Toyota tomorrow and get back to me. Did you have both sides with weldnuts or anybody with an SE have them? thanks
Did you order Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch #36416? Could you also post pic?

I had the same problem, no weld nuts. I just grabbed some extra bolts that were similar diameter and put a lock washer on them. After consulting a website about the grade of bolts provided, it is basically one step above the weakest bolt you can buy. So I figured anything I had laying around would be sufficient.

I also got the hidden hitch 90152. I'm hoping to hear from etrailer.com today. My experience so far with them hasn't been to pleasant. I also had to use nuts with lock washers which was a pain to get to and hold! Here some pics
This is the weld nuts side
This is the side with nothing so i had to put some nuts with lock washers(duct tape lol)

Do you also have '11 SE? etrailier.com said all toyota camrys have weld nuts on both sides. They are supposed to call toyota today i guess and find out. I didnt have any lock nuts or lock washers laying around so i had to make a trip to town( i was at my father in laws lives in the country) which added an extra hour to the install!
