Hey guys. I've recently had come into my possession the following:
1pr x Alpine 6 3/4" Speakers
1set x Alpine 6.5" Components
1 x Amp to run the both (cant remember specs)
Question: Which should I put in the front (im guessing components) and which in the rear? OR am i better buying some 6x9's for the rear instead?
Also: need some advice RE custom mounts for both, i have the templates etc but can anybody tell me what thickness of board i'll need to make them? I think the tweeter mounting is probably going to be the most difficult, i'll probably mount them somehow in the stock space.
and YES i will have an amp/sub to go with them... soon enough.
Cheers,
Dan.

put the alpine 6.5in components in the fronts and i suggest getting 6x9's in the rear or you can get a custom bracket that will fit 3 3/4's alpines, but i dont think it would sound all that great but it can/will work.

Yeah I think that's probably what i'll end up doing. Could always put the 6 3/4 in the back doors or something later on i guess. Suppose i'll just have to make up some 10mm spacers in the back outta some MDF/plywood or something, same as the front. Not sure about the tweeters at this stage, seems like everybody's door mounting them so I may have to go that route.

i mounted my tweeters on the black plastic piece where you to take off to remove the side mirrors, seems to work well for me. My tweeters wouldn't fit in the stock tweeters place and i didn't feel like cutting the dash apart. lol Took some quick pics to show you guys.

Niiice, may have to consider that i think. Love the basketball tweeter covers
Yeah i think acoustically they'll be better off there, just have to figure out how to mount the bastards. All good.
Side note: You guys just mounting your amps behind the seats? Not sure if im gonna do that or under the seats yet. we'll see.

Haha yeah alot of ppl say it looks like a basketball, and i first tried 3m tape but when it gets hot out they fall off constantly because their kind of heavy and from the force of the door being closed back and forth. So i finally just screwed them into that plastic piece from the inside of the back of the tweeters.
I have 2 amps and i didn't screw neither of them in because they don't move as much because of my box being there. I have mine behind the back seats, and i always have one seat folded at all times so the bass flows into the cabin more. Here's a link if you want to see:

Awesome thats exactly what I needed to know. Kudos to you, sir. However mine's an SE so my seats dont fold :p guess im screwing them onto the back of the seats. Now all I need is some time off work to make up the speaker mounts *sigh*

Putting the tweeter in the sail panel like that raises the sound stage but for best imaging, the tweeter should go as close as possible to the mid.
As far as the above install goes, it looks pretty bad with the wire sticking out like that and looks like the tweeter sticks out of the panel. Flush mount would look better IMO. Just don't put them in the dash like the stock speakers or you risk having harsh sounds bounce off the hard glass.
I'm not entirely sure what everyone's fascination with Alpine is, but there is plenty of good stuff out there. Don't be shy to look around and shop off-line. Arc Audio, Focal, Rainbow, MB Quartz...
There are two types of tweeters, silk or textile and metal. They can have very different characteristics. If you don't know which kind you like, you could end up buying a set of speakers with awesome reviews everywhere and still hate it.
As for the amp, mounting a piece of MDF to the back of the seat first makes mounting the amp way easier.

+1
Especially with the mounting of the amps.. as there are only so many solid supports to screw into on the back seat and the chances of them lining up exactly with your amp mounts are slim... so mount a piece of wood solid first than the amp to the wood...
Not sure if those tweeters have adjustments but they will definitely be bright right there.. some people like it like that.. however i would set the crossover to -3 if it has the option..
Also I do like the way the tweeters sound reflecting off the front windshield when put into the factory location..

Like I said man, they kind of fell into my hands. Didn't buy them. Although I *probably* would have anyways, I've always liked the sound of Alpine gear, seems to suit my tastes pretty well.. that being said, they're silk tweeters which I prefer.
As for the amp, I think i still have some carpet left from my last amp install to cover that shitty MDF I'll be using.

Yeah its one of those things I'll have to try out. I'm pretty sure it's going to be fairly harsh coming off the windscreen, I listen to a lot of metal so there's plenty of noise up there haha but I'll test it all out first before i mount them. And yes the tweeters have 6-step adjustment so its all good there.

I agree. I work at a big box retailer that sells Alpine stuffs and to be honest, you could buy something so much better for a little bit more money. But, if it was free, why not. I have Rainbow SLC 6 1/2's in the front and 6x9 SL's in the rear... I love it. I went with Alpine PDX amps cause they're compact, perform some what decent, got them really cheap from a rep, and liked the look of them. I got 2 10in RE SRX's in a fiberglass ported box tuned to 35htz. IMO, it sounds great and I've had passengers compliment my system on how life like the sound is compared to pitchy or flat sounding.

Ah, ok. I really only skimmed through your first post and missed the part about you getting them for free.

You can't angle them away from the windshield glass? I haven't seen what it looks like under that grill so I'm not sure the size limitations.

Scosche has some 6x9 to 6.5 bracket mounts for the front of our cars you can get. SA69 is part number I believe.
