5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I just traded my 2010 LE with 1800 miles in on a new 2011 XLE loaded with all options. The main reason I traded was because the wife and I are always at odds about the heat/AC. So with the dual control climate maybe our marriage will improve (LOL). Anyhow I decided to go with leather as I was not crazy about the comfort of the front seats in the LE thinking leather would somehow be an upgrade in the comfort department as well. So I buy this car from the dealer on the phone sight unseen and after puting on about 300 miles I have decided the seats are not one bit more comfy than the ol LE I traded in. The driver seat is better than the passenger only because of more adjustibility than the pass seat has (mostly the ability to tilt the butt part back). I was disipointed to learn the pass seat only has two axis of adjustibility. You would think for 30 grand a guy would get more than 2 axis of adjustment on the pass seat. Hell the seats in my 2000 CE with 160,000 is just as comfy if not more than this new (luxuary?) car seats. And for dam sure my 2005 Sport Tacoma has much more comfy seats than the 2011.
Just blowin some steam but I need to remember this car is far better than anything else on the market for the green and I absolutely love it! I just think the japs need to design the seats differently for US models than what they have in tsunami land. Hell we don't average 4 foot 7 inch over here like they do over there.

I wonder whether other cars in the same class to Camry with the highest trim level such as Accord, Fusion, Optima, and Sonata have more comfortable passenger seat. My friend have 2011 Kia Optima, and his car has heated for the back seats and a mini-fridge. I think it's time for Toyota to put more features in.
You also have to understand that Kia is going to put in more options because they are still trying to get a foothold on the market. Toyota and Honda aren't playing catch up. Toyota is also limited by the Lexus brand. Toyota isn't going to make the Toyota Camry any better or the same as the Lexus ES model. It will always be less, otherwise no one would ever buy the ES.
P.S. If you want a mini fridge they are around $60.00.
AZ-Yota,
The seats are uncomfortable. There is no way around it. I find it helps more if I don't sit on my wallet. Sometimes I feel like I must be sitting wrong. Like other humans don't sit like me or something. lol.

I totally understand this, but the distance between Toyota/Honda and other brands is not as great as it used to be. I believe Toyota/Honda will do something when this distance becomes small. I read a recent news that Honda Accord was slipped in rank compared to Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima because of the poor handling (not interior features), so I think other brands become better by some critical components such as engine and suspension, not by just adding more features. Besides, with the world economic today, people will choose what they have most for a certain amount of money. It means when other brands have their critical componenents as good as Toyota/Honda do, consumers may think twice.
Ford learned its lesson when Japanese cars got into the US market. :-(

Camry is far,far from a luxury car. The feel and quality of the Camry even at the highest trim is crap compared to a true luxury car. But the prices are completely different.
The seats in my 95 Mustang are so comfy that both my husband and I have fallen asleep in them before on road trips, but the 11 SE isn't as comfy. I always figured it's because the Mustang have had 16 years and 150k to break in, and the 11 is only 9 months old with 5400 miles, and the seats are still "new".

My only complain is the b-pillar that obstructs my blind spot checking. If I sit in a very comfortable way, I won't be able to check this spot, so the two things have to be compromised.
I like the SE non-leather seats. Much better than my 94 and 89, thats for sure.

SE leather seats are by far the best Gen 6 seats IMO. They have a little more bolster and the cushion is longer than the LE/XLE platform. They are however nowhere near the best seats I've had in past cars. Mustang GT seats have always been comfortable even from the Fox body days. Toyota made some excellent sport seats that were comfy too back in the day. My 83 Supra had sweet chairs that looked like Recaros. The sad part is that even though I find that Gen 6 seats wanting, the Gen 5 seats were worse. I got rid of my 03 SE because the seats gave me so little support they aggravated my sciatica.
