I have been using forums since my first 94 tt supra i bought in 98.MKIV.com was sent from GOD.I have had 3 since one making 800rwhp.Supraforums was another great forums.Ive had BMWs classic hotrods and been part of many useful forums. This board is the quickest to say search Ive ever been on.I turned all the wrenchs and installed HIDs ect on cars for 15 years. Some of these threads are so long on here its very time consuming for people who are new or inexperienced. It just seems sometimes give the guy a simple answer.I know this will be slammed like he!! so go ahead.I know this subject has been been gone over before so I should have done a search. All this said I have found some very good info on here. Thanks all.

lol some of the ppl on here are pretty anal about using the search, but i do agree that there is a lot of random shit you need to weed out before you actually find what you are looking for, i hope this doesnt deter you from our forums though
Dolfan is right! I really like reading this forum and answer a few questions I know the answers to even if I know a quick search would yield an answer. I use the search function on several forums and find answers 60-70% of the time. We could all help by titling new threads and questions with search in mind. This forum would much livelier if the search nazis would either shut up or help. They are strangling this forum for sure.

I feel the same way, I f I know the answer or if you are doing a mod that say I just got through with.. I say why not give the person the answer
that you know instead of "do a search" and be a ball buster to someone
thats not how I roll. I think it is a wise Idea to an OP to state that they tried to do a search and yielded no answer.

I just blocked some of those people. I gave up and was off TN for about 8 months because it was getting annoying to be on when the answer to too many questions was "SEARCH" and even in all caps. Not even just my posts, but reading posts from others when they were told off. New members may not know the nuances of forums, or that an answer was posted in this unrelated topic 2 years ago.
It seems better lately, but still- it's a discussion forum, not a library. Things change over years, better fixes, new solutions, etc... Most of the time I can find answers with a search, sometimes it's a bit more challenging.

I agree....many people say "search" or "already been discussed" I think it is because they might be too lazy to type a response....I never post any questions on here because people get too butt hurt over a question....But like "some" say it is to clean up the forums....it would be nice to post to be able to post questions without being ridiculed for asking........
When I respond to a topic that's been discussed, I will mention that it's already been discussed but I WILL answer the question 1) for the OP and 2) so there's less weeding to do for the next person searching, lol

You're correct that this has been an issue for some time, and, quite frankly, the blame for it goes all around.
There are a lot of noobs who do come onto the forums who obviously don't search over some very easy, often stickied issue. Then we have too many regular members who either are way too quick to make some smart ass reply to search (this would be njerald ), or they don't take the time to help out someone and do it nicely. You guys have certainly seen my replies to noob threads here in the Camry section, and those are the ones usually where a noob asks for help and no one replies, so I typically help them out with a link but also suggest they use the search feature.
What I'd like to see in these forums is for regular members to either say nothing and walk away from the thread without antagonizing the noob, or to take a few moments and do the same thing I do and offer a link and a polite suggestion to use the search feature to locate other relevant threads. If a noob comes off with any kind of an attitude, such as "What, no one can answer my question on this s****y forum?", then let a Moderator handle it and leave the issue alone. If we could all exercise a little common sense and common decency as described above, then this issue will become more of a non-issue over time. Those are my thoughts and suggestions....thanks!

that is the thing, it's NEVER just a respond. People have follow up concerns. Why create millions of threads with the same issue, with the same follow up concerns? If they search, all their problems/followups/etc all get answer INSTANTLY given the topic has been discussed which MOST are covered and discussed and millions of time.
Search first, ask question in that thread if you want. Than if you can't find it than you can ask. Keep the forum clean and organize to make it easy for others.

All users are to blame. Putting "Help" in the title does nothing for the search feature. If you need help, put down exactly what you need help with so people know and can help in the search function.
Secondly, starting a new thread because you're too lazy to search makes the search feature even more cluttered. If you want to help the forum, put a little effort into searching and I don't try once and give up. Put in different keywords. You'll get your answer. The forum has been up for a long time and Gen 6 specifically has been available for almost 5 years. Your question has more than likely been asked more than once and answered more than once.
So for the poor searching, everyone is to blame for the clutter.
Also, word of advice, just stating "I tried searching but can't find it" is NOT a scape goat or excuse for you to just start a new thread. Let this be a warning for anyone thinking they can use this.
Obviously, when you search, you're not going to get your answer right away. Like all forums, you'll have to do some browsing to get what you want and weed out what does not pertain to you. The internet and search function does not read your mind and only searches for what you type in. If you have the time to post a new thread and question and wait for an answer, you have the time to do a search and browse for the answer.

+1. I've been using BBS and PHPBBs since the mid 90's and the searching/indexing features have gotten SO much better. No matter what subject the board is geared towards, this problem exists. Just like many others, this board has the stickies for 'newbs' and otherwise.
However, that said, when an answer IS older -- I too will search a few dozen results and then start a new thread if I've come up empty handed. I joined this forum 3 years ago mainly to be able to search answers just like most I join. Whenever I have a genuine problem though (@ ANY BOARD -- NOT NECESSARILY HERE), I am absolutely sick and tired of having to "suck up" to the forum's high-post count members due to having the burden of proof of having searched: "I tried searching and here's my evidence: link #1, link #2, link #3 to related issues but they don't quite answer my question..."
Some searching should be expected especially for a general question like "know anything about the 2AZ-FE head bolts stripping out?lolzezez" But... when I author a response to someone it is out of genuine desire to aid them or someone else reading it who's in the same boat. So at the very least... LINK THEM TO THE ANSWER!

Yes sir. I see the search nazi's perspectives and I likely don't share in them because I'm not a active full-time on any forum for >6-12 months before it fades for me. And if 1.5 decades of forum memberships has taught me anything it is that great knowledge is locked in stubborness.
