It's a bit lengthy. can be cut down to 5mins video.

And for the drain in the oil filter, easier to skip that and remove the filter.

Yes that is true. I left the title sequences in there so that viewers could skip through if they need help with a certain part. It can be shorter but I figured its easier to follow along in your garage with a longer tutorial.

Yes its easier to skip the oil filter drain part but in my experience it keeps things more clean to use the plug.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll make the brake job brief.

Hey jofrad have you tried the new style filter drain plug from fram? It screws in place. It worked alot better for me than the older one that you push into place.

I find it just as messy with or without that drain.

Workerant has a good point with the mess thing. If I am in a hurry and I change the oil using the filter drain piece, it will still make a mess.

If you are working on something else around the house, you can let it sit and drain out for a bit (30 or so min). In my experience this minimized the amount of oil that dripped outside the filter housing while removing it.

I suppose this all depends on how much residual oil is in the engine, the oils viscosity, oil temp, and maybe even quality control on the filter housing piece.

I have no problem with mess. Rather than just use the plastic drainer, I attached a hose. This directs oil into the pan.

y not just skip strait to the mess? why do it twice when U can do it only once? Look, it's still messy with the drain hose... this pic is strait from your PDF.

Better to just leave the drain thing in place. Remove the filter and pull out the oil from there, it's faster and with the same amount of mess.

As stated, I have very little mess. I also reuse the plastic drainer and hose. It all depends on how you handle your stuff and how you work. I don't have oil all over like its shown in the picture. Also, in regards to mess, I dont have oil spewing everywhere

Brake how to is up. I have limited footage of working on car though so its not great. I shortened the video up a lot so you get just the stuff you need.

I've never seen that type of oil filter before. I've changed oil on many different types of cars but this is the first I've seen of the element swap. It seems like there adding too many steps into a 2 second job. Regardless thanks for the video. Also, the video was good length and very thorough, perfect for the noobs.

The first Toyota I purchased was a 1967 Corona and it used a filter element in a housing that had a drain bolt. The new element came with a package of three gaskets. One for the drain plug, one for the housing and one for the center bolt holding the housing to the engine. Anyone remember that arrangement?
